Nowhere is the situation worse than in Detroit, which ranks as the most stressful metropolitan area in America, according to a new Bizjournals study.

Detroit is saddled with the highest unemployment rate, 7.2 percent, in any of the nation's 50 largest markets. It also has the group's worst murder rate. And it's among the 10 places with the most robberies, the slowest rates of income growth, the most heart attacks and the fewest sunny days.

Detroit is No. 1 again.

Misery, stress, foreclosures. Must be Bush's fault.

A a metro-Detroiter who travels alot for business I really find this hard to believe. I guess the biggie is the foreclosure problems and layoffs that so many are enduring. But other than that, it really isn’t all that bad a place to live.

I can tell you that I’ve driven on the Long Island Expressway a few times and it was scary. I’ve never been flipped off so many times....hmmm, maybe it was my Michigan plate? great, now I’m stressed about that.

When I have to go to Detroit, I do my work and leave. No stress here, none at all.

Damn those racist republicans! With the republican governor of Michigan, republican mayor of Detroit, republican chief of police, republican superintendant of schools, etc. No wonder it's so awful. We need to get those republicans out of office in Detroit!

Detroit has republicans? I thoguht Robocop killed them all and made Detroit a wonderful people’s paradise with universal health care and art subsidies, progressive workers unions, and organic school lunchs.

What percent of the population of Detroit is minority? Might it not be that hhe misery index closely tracks with the minority percent of a city?
