Come on folks, let’s rip the great Ronald Reagan’s son for being a RINO and a sell out. Rip his deceased father for backing Ford after he lost while you are at it.

You know you want to.....

Hunter? Gone
Fred? Gone
Romney? Gone

Hillary/Obama or McCain?

What would RR do?

He was strong armed into bringing Bush on the ticket in ‘80, and tacidly supported him twice for POTUS. I think Reagan would give a Buchanan-style endorsement, but he wouldn’t sell his soul for the Benedict Arnold of the Reagan Revolution.

Forget it - the Huck, Fred, and Hunter people on this site are so far around the bend that they can see the loonies on DU from the back. And it ain’t pretty.

Perahps it would be good for you to note that the party came together under Dole, and it didn't help him a damn bit with the base.

And Dole was a conservative rock star compared to McCain.

I'd just as soon rip RWR as I would use his memory to brow-beat others out of their vote in November.

It's his son's prerogative, but I have too much respect for the man.

I am not sure that it is a totally fair question. The question which precedes it, is what would Ronald Reagan have done? He would not have gotten in this stinking position in the first place. I take Ronald Reagan at his word and the first thing that he would have done with congressinal majorities, is ABOLISH the Department of Education, instead of getting in bed with Teddy Kennedy letting him write the bill which the federal government further destroyed the public education system.

And Ronald Reagan would not have let a MAVERICK game the nomination system so that New Hampshire and South Carolina, and blues state wins on super tuesday could lock up the nomination. Reagan would have supported the nominee but had he had influence instead of lip service to his legacy over the last eight years then a MAVERICK/collaborator would not have gotten the nomination.

“What would RR do?”

He would look forward to the next election in which he would need moderate support to win the general election, and support the nominee in the losing effort this year. I’m not planning on running for anything. I have the luxury of standing on principle. I’m tired of the betrayals by the GOP leadership, including the compassionate conservative.

What would RR do?

He would have voted for Thompson when it had a chance to mean something.

I don't care. McCain became my enemy back during the Clinton administration when he was the only Republican to endorse marxist Clinton nominee Anthony Lake for Director of the CIA. I fought with him over it and I won, thank goodness. Lake withdrew his name after Sen. Shelby subpoenaed people to testify about Lake's Marxist leanings.

Since then McCain has pulled more liberal, Democrat agenda promoting stunts than I can count. McCain-Feingold CFR is unforgiveable. As is his collusion with the Democrats to stop good court nominees. And his calling me a racist and other such nonsense because I want the borders secured and our laws upheld...well...he's done everything in his power to keep me his enemy.

I can't vote for him under ANY circumstances. He's made sure of that. It's not a matter of him not being conservative enough or whatever. It is a matter of him nearly always being on the wrong side of every issue that I've supported.

If he is the nominee then the GOP deserves precisely what they've asked for - a Democrat administration in the White House for the next 4 to 8 or more years. And I will, the day McCain is nominated, become an Independent and leave the party that I've supported for two decades (Precinct Committeeman, State Delegate, GOP Club President, Volunteer, Campaign Worker, Donor, Fundraiser, etc.) Rather, the party will have left me.

And the day that Free Republic comes around and supports him is the day that Free Republic will have lost every shred of credibility that it has ever held. It was on FR that the effort to impeach John McCain was launched. The founder of FR considers McCain a "treasonous bastard", among other things. Yes, Obama and Clinton are the enemy. But so is John McCain.

Reagan would campaign hard, across the country, ESPECIALLY for conservative candidates. He’d be supporting guys like Senator Sessions and Duncan Hunter and identifying weak RINO’s and democrats who would be vulnerable to a conservative candidate.

And why are Hunter, Romney, Thompson gone? Because hardly anyone voted for them, that’s why.

He doesn’t know what Reagan would do, no one does. This is stupid. This situation is similar but not the same as ‘76. His opinion might count more than someone who never knew Reagan, but no one knows for sure. It was said earlier, and still applicable, I know me and I guess I’m no Reagan.

Reagan had not been lied to by the Republican Party as much as we have. Who knows what he would do now?

With all due respect, if the liberal with the R next to their name Ford had won instead of the liberal with a D Carter winning and ruining the country with his weakness and liberalism, things would have turned out differently.
