And maybe next time the conservatives have good candidates they will get behind one who can win a national election and carry him/her forward. They had at least two this go around and they are now noth out of the race. I wanted Fred or Hunter and could have lived with Romney but the conservative base didn’t get behind them.

Here’s a scary thought, maybe McCain does win and without the help of conservatives. What to do then?

Fight him on every liberal idea he goes across the aisle with.

If Hillary is the nominee, McCain will have all the help he needs from conservatives and then some, including many, many who are now vowing never to vote for him. There is just too much Clinton hatred among the conservative base for them to stand by.

Now if Obama gets the nod, the conservatives won't turn out in this manner. Never mind that he's even more socialist than Hillary, that's beside the point. Conservatives do not have the visceral hatred for him that they have for Clinton, due to not having a history of battles with him, and they won't turn out for McCain. Then Obama gets elected, with similar or worse results as a Hillary presidency.

That's not going to happen. There's no enthusiasm for McCain like Obama has. But if it does it just means we have to form a new conservative party and move on. We don't need to keep a partner that cheats on us. That's for Democrats.

What I can't understand is why this country has only two brands in political power. What laws support that? Other countries have many parties. The great thing about that is politicians can say what they really think, be themselves, and still get elected on occasion. With all the advances in marketing technology several new brands should be able to emerge. What is behind this two party domination? There are many Democrats that are ready to split their party as well. If we do it at the same time then it has a chance to succeed.

So what does this tell us about the state of the conservative base?

And on what basis is the conservative base mad at the rest of the party for choosing a candidate they didn't even vote for in sufficient numbers?
