More than likely, the Dems will win big in 2008. Not because conservatives are staying home or at least not voting for the top of the ticket, but rather, because the larger Dem base is far more energized, as was the case in 2006. Certainly having a candidate like McCain will depress the GOP base [what party nominates its maverick as its standard bearer?], but I doubt if any Rep could have won this year. The only glimmer of hope is that the Dems nominate Hillary who has very high negatives. She is the only candidate who can energize the GOP base.
