As I indicated in my post - I don't think there is any more than a remote chance that someone other than McCain wins the nod. My point was that the only thing that makes it at all conceivable is the unprecedented level of bile that the base of the Republican Party feels for its own candidate.

Consider that fact for a moment (and without getting nauseous, if possible) and then tell me it's totally inconceivable that conservatives will revolt or at least make a pro forma effort to find someone else at this point in the election cycle (nine months away from Election Day). The only thing that makes it even a 1000-1 shot at this point is that we hate our own candidate.
