“Germans performed genocide against Jews. Yet we shouldn’t hold today’s generation accountable.”

Absolutely

“IIRC, the New Testament places Jews and Romans as the folks who proximately crucified Jesus. Oh well. That doesn’t make today’s Romans guilty of anything.”

There was nobody else involved in the death of Jesus (except Satan and God) so I’d agree that the Jews and Romans were responsible for his death. This is well documented in religious and secular documents from that time.

Of course today’s Jews or Romans are not responsible any more than today’s white people are responsible for slavery.

Today’ s Romans have no real connectiion with the ancient Romans, as Mussolini found out when he tried to “restore” the Roman Empire in the Med. The Jews are another matter: they are a people with a continuous history going back to the time of Abraham, and it was their leaders who sent Jesus to Pilate. On Jesus’ cross Pilate has a sign posted saying
“Jesus of Nazareth, king of the Jews.” Both Pilate and Caiphas acted out of ignorance as well as a disregard for justice. That of the Jews, howver. was the greater fault, for if Jesus was indeed what was posted, they had (once again) broken covenant with their Lord by trying to extinguish the Light of the world which they are entrusted to keep lit. To whom much is entrusted, much is expected.
