As part of the Governor's Task Force on Medical Liability Reform, New York State Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo has stated that without legislative action to control medical liability insurance rates, to keep the medical liability insurance companies solvent, it will be necessary to impose:
* a 15-25% premium increase per physician per year for several years;
* a cumulative $50,000 surcharge on each physician in New York State , to be collected over multiple years; --------
