Gary Peters could put an end to this whole mess but that would require courage and a respect for the law.

Why should I discourage the free discussion of psychological problems among college students? Look what happened at Virginia Tech.

I know. I don’t understand why he doesn’t just quit?

On the other hand, do we really want an educational system that can rid itself of its critics by declaring them insane? That sounds remarkably like Soviet educational policy. Anyone who disagreed with communism was labled a lunatic and summarily sent off for "treatment." Gulag Archipelago should be required reading for all Americans.

Good for Mr. Lennox. Just because he enrolled as a student there doesn't mean that he automatically surrendered all of his First Amendment rights when he walked onto the campus ... although that's the way the CMU administration appears to have been trying to deal with him.

Doncha’ just love it when the “smart folks” do something that winds up and really bites them on the a$$!! This is funny!

99% of all University Professors are NOT psychologists, for one. And someone “who used to work in mental health” - what does THAT mean? Mental Health? Are they an MD? If not, she was well over her head.
Usually when such an accusation comes forward it is because someone simply doesn’t share the same beliefs as the statement maker.
In fact, NO ONE is “qualified” in MY opinion to make a statement of “mental health”, period, in particular if they are NOT a board certified, medical doctor with an awful lot of years of psychological background. And I mean A LOT OF YEARS.

It sounds like you know a lot about this particular case. Could you please enlighten us all on Mr. Lennox's alleged psychological problems. Please also advise us all about your bonafides for making such diagnoses. I've followed this situation closely since it arose here in Michigan and I had not detected psychological problems on the part of Mr. Lennox. Please help me understand. What is your specific diagnosis of Mr. Lennox? Are you a university professor that looks down his/her nose upon the rest of us unwashed? A psychiatrist or psychologist? What evidence have you? Please help me understand.
It would also be nice if you would not discourage the free discussion of psychological problems among college teachers. I'm sure there are some nut cases preaching leftist garbage at at least a couple colleges and universities.

"I used to work in mental health, and quite frankly the pattern of behavior we've been witnessing is disturbing and indicates that Mr. Lennox is not only someone with noxious political and social beliefs, but someone who has mental health issues, and someone who seems to be losing control," Blake wrote in the e-mail that began the discussion on Lennox.
The highlighted part is the PROBLEM... not Mr. Lennox's 'mental health', but rather the mental health of the jackass that wrote those remarks. For her, the fact that he has some DIFFERING idea is what makes him have this "noxious political and social beliefs".
Nearly every ONE of us here had "noxious political and social beliefs" when it comes to the Left. We believe in guns, the second amendment, the first amendment, and hell, even the WHOLE Constitution - that ISN'T a "living document" which in turn is a "noxious political belief" to ANYONE on the left.
,br> Our "noxious social beliefs" include the free practice of Christianity, the USE of guns to defend ourselves and the very idea that self defense is an innate right NO ONE can take from us..... well, there you go, according to that lady, every one of us suffers from mental delusions, noxious political and social beliefs.
The professors need to go through a better chain of custody if they believe someone is TRULY a mental case, and contact authorities who are NOT part of the established University, BEFORE trying to "evaluate mental deficiencies" on their own.
I contend they are NOT qualified

What’s this all about? What has gotten Lennox into this situation? Is he an aggressive, abrasive anti-abortion advocate? Even the sympathetic person in the link on post #6 suggested that Lennox might be a bit over the top, but does anyone have any specifics?

99% of university professors are unemployable leeches on society.
Those who can do, those who can’t teach.

I don’t believe that. I was a teacher in a college for awhile. I had other positions too, including in the military at the time. You can’t really say that, and it’s actually completely untrue.
