Romney got monkey stomped. i was going to vote for him in Texas but his Washington outsider message was weak obviously.

Romney was damaged immensely by Fred Thompson, a tired disfunctional candidate who never had a snowball's chance... but was coerced to enter the race and thus took many Romney votes. (I like Fred, but he had no business running)

Romney was also hurt immensely by a small but passionate group of hard-right subliminal Mormon haters who spent the past year spreading disinformation about Romney based on two or three OLD out-of-context 5-second snippets of YouTube video that proved nothing and only distorted Romney's fairly conservative record on social issues.

These Romney haters launched a massive email, snail mail campaign, and had infiltrated American Family Assoc and other conservative groups.

If you need proof of their hatred, consider the fact they are STILL emailing, writing, and posting on FR and other forums incessantly with their hate bombs .... and the man already withdrew nearly two weeks ago.

It is embarrassing in the extreme for such hatred to be couched in the Republican Party.

Romney lost fair and square. Get over it already and lay off Fred. He was the real conservative in the race

Or anywhere near FreeRepublic for that matter. Very sad indeed. Pure media influence, and it gathered in the gullible in large numbers.

To quote FDR, “the only thing we have to fear, is ignorance.” Ok, I took license.

Romney’s gone. Get over it.

That is a lie. The fact is that Romney was a left winger when he ran for governor. He tried to portray himself as a born again conservative. Maybe he was, but he didn't convince enough people and ultimately decided to throw in the towel and ensure McCain's ascendancy.

Romney's Mormonism was the least of his problems. He did not come off as a real human being. He was robotic and wonkish to the max. He could not connect with people on a personal level and as a result he could not spend enough money to get people to get excited about him.

FWIW, I voted for Romney because I thought he was saying the right things, even though I had no real reason to believe him. My vote was based on nothing more than the "audacity of hope."
