Obama’s Global Tax Proposal Up for Senate Vote (Obama wants $90b a year for foreign aid)
Accuracy in Media ^ | 2/12/2008 | Cliff Kincaid

A nice-sounding bill called the "Global Poverty Act," sponsored by Democratic presidential candidate and Senator Barack Obama, is up for a Senate vote on Thursday and could result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States. The bill, which has the support of many liberal religious groups, makes levels of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations. Senator Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has not endorsed either Senator Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton in the presidential race. But on Thursday, February 14, he is trying to rush Obama's "Global Poverty Act" (S.2433) through his committee. The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends. The bill, which is item number four on the committee's business meeting agenda, passed the House by a voice vote last year because most members didn't realize what was in it. Congressional sponsors have been careful not to calculate the amount of foreign aid spending that it would require. According to the website of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, no hearings have been held on the Obama bill in that body. A release from the Obama Senate office about the bill declares, "In 2000, the U.S. joined more than 180 countries at the United Nations Millennium Summit and vowed to reduce global poverty by 2015.

Obama hasn't even become president yet, and he's already looking to pick our pockets big time.

I guess Obama just wants to 'share for the common good' in a different way than Hil does. Just think for a moment - I wonder how many of Obama's leftie supporters think this is great, him unveiling his big plan in advance of any nomination? Ugh!

13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends

Let me guess - we can all ante up? Even if every single American (including children), all 300 million or so, pays up, that's $2,816 each spread over 9 years, and we all know many can't and won't pay, so it will be even larger. And will any of it be available to help the very poor Americans in our own global backyard? Not holding my breath...

Why stop at $90B if it’s such a good idea? I’m sure we can find more to give away.

Oh, that's just what the 'global' community will say! They will see our willingness to give it up as a sign of deep pockets with more to have at, to share the wealth. And eager lefties (I know a few) will agree and lobby for it. For the chul-drun. Of course, as others have noted, some of it will be eaten up in expenses and some of it will line dictators pockets. Yes, one thing is certain, the amount will have to go up.

There’s about $100m people in the work force. $90b a year in foreign aid translates to $900 per worker on an annual basis.

“The people need to wise up to politicians like Obama who are ignoring their oaths to defend the Constitution, sending them home as opposed to trying to put people like him in the Oval Office.”

Point 1: “Public” school indoctrination into the socialist paradigm. The Constitution is not a wriiten contract between the American people and their government; but rather, a “living document,” to wit: meaningless.

Point 2: Government intervention against parents who shape their childrens’ views on cultural issues, including usurpation by “activist” courts so to abrogate parental authority and replace parents with government agents whom inculcate submission to global collectivism.

Point 3: MSM, Hollywood, and Touchy-feely television... all used to effectively revise American history and culture, so to subvert each new generation into the collective, and thus finish the job of destroying individual thought, replacing reason and personal responsibility with victimhood and tribalism.

The communists were never defeated. They came here, and we became them. Unless you are willing to bear arms against the state, these trends will not reverse, but will acquire greater intensity, becoming more homogenized into the American psyche... IMO, we are beyond the point of no return... The monster has indefatigable momentum and power.

The time to stop “it” was during the administrations of Wilson and FDR. Note that both these men: stoked the fires for global war (WWI & II); set up the American public to take the bait and enter war; and then used war as a pretense to justify granting the state limitless power and authority over the individual. Sound familiar?

“Sounds like it’s time for a massive opt out of paying any federal taxes by all tax payers if they force this BS down our throats.”

How is that feat accomplished when the government has co-opted all business interests to do its dirty work?

Under President Obama we will become a recipient rather than a donor on war on global poverty. DOES our debt make us one of the poorest countries on earth?

Not exactly. If they had actually come here, you would be lying in a shallow grave somewhere in a labor camp in Alaska for expressing these sentiments to friends (let alone in a public forum like this), who would have snitched on you in order to avoid punishment for not snitching on you.

Yes, I'm sure the majority of American taxpayers want $845B of our money to be given to the UN to dole out to third world countries. I'd like to know who the "many liberal religious groups" are that support this ClusterHuck. What's wrong with these people?

Liberals with Obama NEVER get elected President. The country won’t do it. McCain is a terrible candidate, so I will not say never, but I am feeling more that way as I hear people discuss this election. Obama is a radical. We are at war. Voters won’t give the power of CIC to a radical liberal.

I refer to communist ideas, ideals and thought. Understand that the military and government apparacek of the Soviets, Chi-coms, N. Koreans, etc did not physically come here... But their ideas have fully infiltrated the American mind through our institutions, most notably education. Look up Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937) http://www.marxists.org/archive/index.htm Gramsci coined the phrase “March through the institutions.”
