I'm betting that before too long they'll be able to get stem cells from hair follicles or the inside of your cheek or any number of places. Though the cord blood/placental ones seem to be especially right-off-the-shelf all-purpose usable.

As TheresaKett mentioned earlier (and I had heard mention of this recently), they are also starting to look at menstral lining as a source of stem cells and while this sounds somewhat disgusting, it makes good sense.
