Oxnard police say an eighth-grader at E. O. Green School was shot by another student about 8:30 a.m. today inside a classroom at the C Street campus.
The 15-year-old victim, reported to be in serious condition, was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. The student’s name has not been released.
Several dozen officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the junior high school after receiving a report that a student had been shot inside a classroom. The suspect, also believed to be a student at the school, ran off campus after the shooting but was apprehended nearby, police said.
Police said it appeared to be an isolated incident between the two students.
Hundreds of parents have lined up in a field outside the school and are being allowed to go onto the campus one-by-one to pick up their child. School officials are announcing to the crowd, however, that students can only be released to a person listed on an emergency contact information card.
Clergy are also on the scene, talking to parents and telling them that if they have not been contacted, their children are OK.
Several parents waiting in line said they were shocked that a shooting had happened at E. O. Green, which they described as a safe school.
Ping.

One tool for every job.

What is a 15-year-old doing in Middle School?
In promoting the "No Child Left Behind" idea, apparently they're not passing kids until they are competent in their grade level.
That’s *only* a year or two off from the norm, isn’t it?
From one of the photos, I’m wondering if this is a black on white crime.
Local news reports say that this is an isolated incident, and that there is "no evidence" of gang involvement.
There are members of the military shown standing outside the school's fence with the very long line of parents who are waiting to pick up their children.
One eighth grader shot another eighth grader in the head in school. After surgery the student's condition has been upgraded from critical to serious.
Buy ammo, then buy some more. We are fast approaching the point where ammo will be unavailable and buying a gun legally will just lead to your name being put on a list, followed by a knock on your door by some alphabet agency.

Don’t know if some middles still have 9th graders. If it’s 8th then he’s a year behind. Maybe the school did their job and held him back a year.
At 15 my daughter was going into her junior year of high school. Her birthday is the end of November so she turned 16 then.
15 and in middle school should not be allowed.

Wonder whats changed?

There are still some nice areas along with the very rough areas in Oxnard. From news reports, this particular school is considered to be a "good" school, in a nice area.
My guess is that because a lot of people are moving out of the Los Angeles area, at least some of the crime is going with them. On a more pessimistic note, it may just be a case of it's bad all over/where can you run.
It seemed excessive to me, but on re-examining it does seem that at 15 one would be in 10th grade, if all grades were passed. And it is not right to assume that if the student failed two grades they were failed consecutively.
Many first graders were kept back, in the past.
I think that this boy has died, at least that’s what CNN is reporting.
It’s probably 95% latino. My wife teaches at an elementary school in the same district.
They got the one who was ‘the shooter’ or were both of them shooting?
