I just spoke with Syncro, there on site.

The Police have apparently put barricades up along the center of the street, with the Code Pink contingent across the street and up to the barriers, with Berkeley PD standing about 3 feet apart and batons out and face shields on the City Hall side of the street between the two groups.

A lot of noise but I think he said the police have their BACKS to the Code Pink facing the Americans. How odd... typically Law Enforcement knows that Americans are safe to be around. Odd.

He said one policeman had said, “We’re not allowed to separate people” when Code Pinkers had crossed the line but they seem quite firm in making sure the Pro-USA side doesn’t cross any lines.

While speaking with me, someone came along and was making everyone move further away from City Hall.

And it seemed clear to Syncro that the City Council/Mayor wanted to fight a battle of attrition, pushing the key item on the agenda WAY down the list, to help shrink the size of the protest group and tire the rest down. Standard parliamentary procedure when you have the gavel and an issue you don’t want discussed.

WARNING: MINI-RANT —

THE QUESTION IS whether that gavel is in the hand of someone who has standing as a sworn city official on American soil. Here are my two acid tests:

1.
I (insert name) hereby declare on oath that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform non-combatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by law; and that I will take this obligation freely and without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion. So help me God.
