The McCain Mutiny
IBD ^ | February 11, 2008

Posted on 02/11/2008 5:48:13 PM PST by Kaslin

Republicans: George Bush insists John McCain is a true conservative. James Dobson says he's not. Meanwhile, Newsweek predicts "there will be blood" in the GOP. We predict a Republican president. There has to be.

McCain wasn't our first choice, but in the field that remains, he's the best choice. It would be disastrous for America if those conservative purists who'd make the perfect the enemy of the good let America go down a path from which it might not recover.

President Bush, speaking on "Fox News Sunday," responded "absolutely" to host Chris Wallace's question of whether John McCain was a "true conservative." McCain is "very strong on national defense," is "tough fiscally," "believes the tax cuts ought to be permanent" and is "pro-life," Bush noted.

For Obama and Hillary, none of the above apply.

Bush did say, "I think that if John is the nominee, he has got some convincing to do to convince people that he is a solid conservative." Indeed he does, as evidenced by Mike Huckabee's win in the Nebraska caucuses over the weekend.

McCain has done well in primaries where independents could vote for him. In caucuses dominated by party activists, he's done poorly. The caucuses of Maine, Minnesota, Alaska, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada and Wyoming were all won by Romney. One might dub McCain the "rebel without a caucus."

Ann Coulter may vote for Hillary Clinton, but we will not. The time for Coulters and the true believers to have rallied behind Mitt Romney was before Super Tuesday. It is by waiting for the next Reagan that they've risked sticking us with the next Clinton.

“It is by waiting for the next Reagan that they’ve risked sticking us with the next Clinton.”

Thank you Kaslin. I haven’t forgotten how it made me feel having the Clinton mafia in MY Whitehouse for 8 years. I haven’t forgotten how I felt when Hillary hung rubbers on MY Whitehouse Christmas tree either.

Putting all politics aside, we’ve been so incredibly blessed to have had the Bush couple (and Cheneys) and their families occupying it for the past 7 years. The thing that stands out most to me, is how very blessed THEY’VE felt to have been given that honor. That says so much about them. Pure class acts...

I’m with you...that’s exactly what I’m going to do...I WILL NOT vote for McCain..I’ve been appalled at some of the bills he and his buddies from across the isle have subjected us to....one being that gosh awful amnesty bill. I was incensed when he called those of us who criticized that bill ‘a bunch of racists.

With his vindictive attitude, if he did get in as President, I can see his first official act as being granting amnesty, S.S. benefits, drivers licenses,...the whole deal to the illegals who have broken our laws, invaded our country and is part of the economical problems our country faces at this time...tho the gov.would have us believe that we just can’t get along without the cheap labor...give me a break...what did agriculture and corporations do before the cheap labor became the “norm”? I’ll tell ya, they paid decent wages to American workers..

Don’t you just love the choices we have, when either one of the Dems.or McCain all want to do the same thing..amnesty, with no regard for our nation or our culture...

Don’t even bother responding by saying McCain would be so much better on so many things...I say, actions speak louder than words...you may believe McCain when he says what he will do and what he won’t do...but I don’t believe anything any of these politicians say. What the American voters have to choose from is pathetic.

I'm not so sure Huckabee is to the right of McCain. He certainly is to his left on financial issues. He is equally bad on border security. He's better only on the social issues of abortion and 2nd amendment.

The consevative side has actually given up a lot more candidates: Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, Jim Gilmore, Tommy Thompson, Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney. The RINO side has given up only Rudy and still has the Huckster and McCain. If they can't accept even the most leftward pick from our camp, what's the point in arguing over who is the most rightward pick in theirs?

I respect your opinion and all I ask is the same in return. I despise all three of these putrid examples of American political sewage. osama I worry about... ‘toon isn’t going anywhere and billy-jeff would use the Military to build that legacy he so wants. They would become “their “ Military and a dim has never failed to support a dim’s war. osama is a muslim first and dim far down the ladder. He is the man that America should fear... and he is the odds on favorite (at this point in time) to become POTUS. I don’t think mccain could beat him with ALL Conservatives voting for him... he is just that bad.

I have a vision: There is a debate, on the right is an old, old man, he is fatigued and disturbed, it shows in the lines on his face. His eyes move from side to side and his mouth alternately purses and thins. On the left side is a relaxed, comfortable and rested looking young black man.

It is a nightmare!

No, we are being told to get behind McCain, even though 2 others are still in the race. Why have choices and primaries if people can’t vote for who they want and...why didn’t you get behind Duncan Hunter?:’) We vote for who we believe will do the best job. That is the way it should be, anyway.

” I’ll tell you what convinced me I’ve got to go this route again and vote for lesser of two evils. My best friend convinced me. He’s an Army shrink. PHd in Psychology. 57 years old and just back from his second tour in Iraq. He’s at the Pentagon at this time. Told me the palpable fear that exists there regarding the RATS in full control. What dangers lie in their path if the Dems control the cut and run operation and endanger 165K American troops in harm’s way from Iraq.

Many of you say “I support the troops.” Turning their fate over to the Beast or Barry with an increased Dem majority (all too likely) in Congress is NOT supporting the troops. It endangers them. Endangers the nation.”

Worth stating.

-— They are not talking about the primary. Do what you will in the primary - it’s John McCain’s for the losing.

What they are talking about is the general election. McCain is the better choice for the country over Obama. Obama would let America go down a path from which it might not recover.-—

I’ll do what I will in the general as well!

Let me remind everyone that the Constitution Party convention is not until April. I’m not sure who we’ll nominate.

Friggin’ blue blood country club elite scumbags. I am talking the GOP leadership... not about FReepers. Stump-headed... arrogant... abrasive... condescending... hey the GOP and mccain fit like a glove. Looks like we need to change that doesn't it?

You have it. This is a FAMILY discussion. There is no right and wrong in this debate. I respect your choice. Believe me, I have ripped into McCain more often than I’d like to admit to. This process is painful. It’s not fun seeing Freepers going at Freepers. we are all dedicated to conservative principals. Unfortunately, we have been dealt a bad bad hand.

You have to make your own decision, and I will respect it. But consider this: start with Reagan and work your way forward. You will notice that every Republican President or Nominee was more liberal than the one before him. The pattern is obvious. We keep voting for the lesser of two evils and our version of the evil becomes more evil every election. The only way to break the cycle is to STOP SUPPORTING THEM.

Tomorrow I will vote in the Democrat primary AGAINST Hillary Clinton.”

PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!!!

1. Obama is more liberal than Hillary
2. Obama is more electable than Hillary. We can beat the unlikeable Hillary, we cant beat obama. do you want that on your conscience.
3. Obama is on a winning streak, and you are only helping the Dems avoid a ‘split decision’.
...
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1968781/posts

... SO YOUR VOTE IS TO MAKE THE MOST LIBERAL SENATOR IN AMERICA YOUR PRESIDENT!!!!

Unless you are Howard Dean ... you are nuts to do this.

I suggest going into the GOP primary and voting for your favorite conservative as a message. Hunter, Tancredo, Thompson, Romney, whoever ... I will vote Romney in 3 weeks.

If our numbers are so few, why do you seek to convert us? Could it be that you and others like you don’t have the votes to elect anyone? We may not be able to vote a real conservative in by ourselves, but we very probably have the votes to hand McPain a landslide defeat of historic proportions.

I will not vote for McPain, if he picks the Huckster as his veep, I will actually vote DEM to help insure their defeat.

If there were enough anti-McCain Republicans to make a difference, McCain wouldn’t be the candidate.

In how many states has McCain won the vote of 51% or more of Republican primary voters or caucus-goers?

If there aren't a meaningful number of anti-McCain Republicans, why did he only get 27% support in Washington state?

The anyone-but-McCain votes have been diluted among several candidates before, but heads-up is another story. I'm not sure McCain could even win a heads-up contest with a ham sandwich (I know I'd vote for the sandwich).
