Sounds like a “pay shortage.”

Pay shortage? At 50 cents per mile and 55 mph, Heartland is paying their experienced drivers $27.50 an hour. How much do you reckon they’ll have to pay to attract enough drivers?

That's exactly what it is...

These greedy trucking companies are paying crap.

They couldn't pay me $180,000 a year to live in a truck, driving on ice, traffic, living in grungy hole in the wall truck stops...A dangerous and nasty job...You can't have a life unless you take your wife and kids with you. Even then, it's no life.

Trucking? No thanks...It pays crap...

I would only consider it for 200k plus per year, and then I'd only do it for 2 years or so.

Life is too short to live in a stinking truck.

Sounds like a “pay shortage.”Ding ding ding. We have a winner.
Imagine being away from home for three weeks at a time, living in a box that is 7'x7', driving 12-14 hours a day in all weather. Then the places you deliver treat you like a leper, won't even let you use the facilities! And the best part? They pay you by the mile. So, traffic? Sitting? No pay. Fueling the truck at night. on you. Truck breaks down, etc? Again, all on you.

I got a CDL while driving drywall delivery truck one Spring/Summer. When the seasonal turndown came I went to work for a company driving tractor/trailer flatbeds. I worked 14-15 hours a day and when I computed out the hourly pay I was making worse than minimum wage.

After 6 months I quit that crappy job and walked into a temp agency. The next day I was making 11.50/hr working for a garbage company AS A TEMP! Three months later I had a fulltime job with a garbage company making 11.50 with benefits and a year later was making $15.75.

Trucking doesn’t pay except to the company owners. Of course, having a CDL and a spotless driving record means you will NEVER be unemployed.
