Huckabee: Washington State vote like the Soviet Union
CNN Political Ticker ^ | February 11, 2008

(CNN) — Mike Huckabee continued to cry foul Monday over the results in Saturday’s Washington State GOP caucuses, saying the state party chairman's decision to call the race there early for John McCain is reminiscent of elections in communist bloc nations.

"That is not what we do in American elections," Huckabee said on CNN's American Morning Monday. "Maybe that's how they used to conduct it in the old Soviet Union, but you don't just throw people's votes out and say, 'well, we're not going to bother counting them because we kind of think we know where this was going.'

In a statement released Sunday, Huckabee's campaign said Washington's GOP Party Chairman Luke Esser called the race for McCain when Huckabee was only losing to the Arizona senator by 242 votes and over 1,500 votes remained to be counted. Esser has said he remains confident he made the right call.

No sympathy for Mike but he does have a point. I heard a comparison on Fox that this would be like calling the NE Patriots the Superbowl winner at the the 2 minute warning.

You and Huckabee are embarrassing yourselves. The vote was literally meaningless.

This is a straw poll. No delegates have been selected yet. So it is still McCain 0 and Huckabee 0 in the Washington State delegate county.

Problem for Huck now is that he has likened all the folks who work at the precinct level as “Soviet-like”. Do you think that they will want to vote for a Huck delegate to the national convention after this?

I think if he keeps the focus on the “bad guys” and not the poll workers, people will be ok. Your answer surprises me though. Don’t let any bias for a candidate get between what is right or wrong. This is America and whether it’s a vote for dog catcher or president we should fight for fair, honest elections.

I have no bias. I am looking at the process. I live in a caucus state. We had a straw poll on Tuesday, much the same as in Washington. We still have to have our conventions to pick delegates.

Huck is using this for publicity purposes only.

Huckabee is the true - natural law conservative in the race. He has shown thoughtfulness and an understanding of the issues.

Does any of this matter in the general?
What are the chances that the GOP will win Washington in November?

These kind of shenanigans fouled me forever with the Ohio GOP. This year, they’re making back room deals with democrats to allow candidates of both parties to run un-opposed. A pox on them, their children and their children’s children...

Has anybody ever seen or photographed Huckster and Algore in the same place at the same time?

The chances are a lot better with Huckabee than with McCain.

Age and likeability will be a factor, whichever one they pick.

That’s what I was talking about, not just the WA state primary. I am tired of liberals and independents picking our candidates for us.

Doug Erikson said that he agreed with me and was going to see what could be done. I say withhold all WA state delegates until we receive a promise from the GOP to fix the whole primary system. The party may not have any say in how the states vote, but they do have control of the allotment of delegates.

I think same day voting through out regions would be better than what we have, here. Or maybe make all the really big, populous states vote last.

Very funny! as this usually occurs on the democratic side in the Union of the Socialist Republic of Seattle.....

Unbelievable that people on *this* blog would stand along side those advocating a call be made before all votes are counted. Mind boggling, even.

I actually heard that Huckabee won Washington State (was late Saturday evening).

Something fish (even if I don’t care for Huckabee).

see post 12....THIS is Washington, and our process....NOT Wisconsin’s....it’s weird, but that’s the way it is. This was NOT an official vote of any kind.

Don't have convince me. I've thought Huckabee the strongest conservative in the field and the most talented politician for a long time now. I'd like to think my pompoms are the biggest and shiniest.

Are you saying it is ok to cheat as long as the votes weren’t considered important?
