I didn’t like Lantos’ politics (except, to an extent, regarding Israel) at all.

However, he was a human being who endured immense suffering and who lost a lot of his family at the hands of the Nazis. I’m sure that his family is mourning him. I hope that he rests in peace, and that his family can be comforted with the fact of his presence in their lives.

I also hope that the idjits in hid district elect someone a bit less to the extreme left.

Indeed he was a strong supporter of Israel. I also remember when he called a couple of Yahoo guys something reasonably witty over their involvement in having a newsman in China imprisoned.

Sadly many of his other ideas weren't quite so sound including the recent Turkey/Armenian genocide dust up.

My rather bad memory is that he succeeded Leo Ryan after Jonestown although a quick search doesn't confirm that.
