Even if you were opposed to Lantos politically, he was a man you could respect.

He sucked politically, and I would respect a lying pimp more.
A person's death is not a celebratory occasion (well, except for hanoi jane, and a few others when their time comes)but his politics generated nothing but utter and complete contempt, as well as his mannerisms while sitting behind his gavel.

So, let's not go overboard here. I'm willing to let it go since he's dead, but not willing to make a Saint out of him.

I can’t respect him for what he has done in Congress.

Even if you were opposed to Lantos politically, he was a man you could respect.I agree, a fine man, may he rest in peace. Now he did make comments that made my blood boil, but he was a gentleman about it most of the time and a true survivor.

As for me, politics cannot be separated from the list of things that determine whether or not I respect a man.
Your politics and positions on the issues in real terms defines whether you are an honorable or dishonorable man and whether you are a moral or immoral man.
Judging by Lantos behavior in congress, I have very little respect for him
