Mate, you dont get arrested for self defence here.
What the controversy was police and courts cracking down on those who defended their homes against burglars etc, claiming in small handful of cases (i might add), that excessive force was used in terms of self-defence.
Such was the 1990s/2000s backlash, that the law had been clarified and refined by the Govt to allow people and houseowners the fullest measure of legitimate self-defence.
That is good to know. We have similar problems in the more “liberal” areas of our country, but we’re wearing them down slowly.
Personally, I don’t think there is such a thing as “excessive force.” There is only accidental harm to innocent people or damage to property that is not involved in the crime. And this doesn’t seem to happen much.
Crime should be very, very dangerous for criminals.
