If all you've got left to remember your loved one by is a bone fragment, then you must not have had shared much of your lives. Whatever made them them isn't in a landfill somewhere or in an urn or a grave. It's somewhere vastly more important.

I'm not arguing with you, I simply want to comment that this is much easier said than done. I guess we worry that memories will fade, and belongings can help keep that from happening.

Honestly, I have saved scraps of paper that my son wrote on. Most of them are cryptic notes he wrote to himself that I will never figure out. One is a scribbled computer password. Meaningless really. But I can't bear to get rid of them.
