Gay marriage amendment may impact presidential race Sunday, February 10, 2008
The issue on whether to ban same-sex marriages is expected draw more conservatives to the polls.STATE (Bay News 9) -- An amendment on the ballot in November could impact the presidential election.
The amendment would ban same-sex marriages. It defines marriage as a legal union of only one man and one woman.
Like Amendment 1 on property tax reform did earlier this month, Amendment 2 is expected to draw a high number of voters to the polls.
"It will become a big issue as it relates to turnout," said Bay News 9's Democratic Political Analyst Bob Buckhorn. "And turnout as we all know decides who it is who wins the general election."
The issue is expected draw more conservatives to the polls. And that could mean a big boost for the Republican presidential nominee.
More than likely that nominee will be Sen. John McCain, who has not been a favorite among the conservative base.
"They might not like Senator McCain," Buckhorn said. "But they will come out to vote for that amendment and for the most part end up voting for him as well."
Bay News 9's Republican Political Analyst former Governor Bob Martinez said it's not unusual to see hot-button amendments appearing during an election year. In fact- it's pure strategy.
"I think you're going to find the turnout is going to pretty strong in Florida," Martinez said.
Nearly 650,000 Floridians signed the petition that added the marriage amendment to the November ballot.
Sixty percent of voters have to approve the measure for it to pass.
Oh...that's right. Same as Hillary's and Obama's.
One man, plus one woman = marriage. get it? Understand? Yes? No? Sometimes, so-called “marriage” is not. Dead end.
For those who think that they are almost somewhat sharp, or not battle-hardened enough:
“...as in the days of Noah..... “
PAY ATTENTION!
Let us open up this issue, and let the rounds fire away and go down range. Marriage? What is that? What is Holy? What is good? What is not good in a marriage covenant?
What is RIGHT? What is morally correct?
Fire away.
Well, it’s the DemocRATS fault. They’ve been happy for years for the courts to force leftist policies down our throats, so initiatives are a way of fighting back. If the DemocRATS weren’t so insistent on forcing “gay marriage” on this country through the backdoor, there wouldn’t be the opportunity to use it as a wedge issue to get people to the polls to vote on an iniative or constitutional amdendment and simultaneouly boost Republican candidates.
It’s saddening to think that it takes an issue such as “Gay Marriage” to draw out the “Conservative” voters rather than a desire to vote for a “Conservative” candidate.
In my mind this is proof positive there isn’t any real “Conservative” to vote for in this election.
Same man + same woman + consummation on the honeymoon + till death = marriage. No divorce, no affairs. That is marriage.
you are correct John McCain is Swishy ON Queer Issies take a look at the Weasel McCain in this Media Clip.
McCacin supported gay marriage when he wanted to Hurt our Conservative values, when he was not thinking about running for President take a look folks.

“... forcing gay marriage on this country through the backdoor...”
....’thru the backdoor’....heh, heh good pun whether you intended it that way or not.
When was he not thinking about running for President? He strategy all along has been to rely on independents and crossdressing DemocRATS to cross over. Good luck trying to win without the conservative Republican base vote.
You are correct.
All too correct. McCain knew he could count on RNC support on the state level no matter what...and that lead him to seriously discount the antipathy that conservatives have for the liberal agenda. So, for all these years, McCain has gone out of his way to poke us in the eye when he believed that we needed him more than he needed us.
And now that the tables are turned, McCain figures he can lie his way out of the hole he's dug for himself and all other liberal RINOs.
I am happy to say that we are through giving these sell-outs any more "second chances."
PROVERBS CHAPTER 31.
Good read, indeed. Good Word.
Oregon passed a such a constitutional amendment. The libs then created civil unions, making all marraige laws applicable to civil unions. The liberal attitude is "Voters be damned". We are losing the battle, but we'll win the war. Remember, when the tribulation period comes, it will be because the world deserves it.
This is just one more reason why McCain doesn’t need to choose Charlie “Mr. Suntan” Crist (Gov. of FL) as his running mate. Florida will already be turning out in droves to vote for the amendment (state ban on homosexual marriage).
If he thinks he needs Crist as his running mate anyhow, we can all look forward to the possibility of another “October surprise” as in ‘06.

I sense a little double talk here. Romney, while Governor of MA, supported tax payer funding of abortions, which I as a Social Conservative and Pro-Life Catholic find troubling, and he also supported Pro-Same Sex Marriage judges for that state. Now somone explain to me how that fits with social conservative values. McCain is primariliy a federalist, which thus suggests that a Federal Constitutional amendment is not the way to go and ultimately this should be done at the state level. LA, where I am from overwhelmingly passed a marriage amendment. As more and more states pass Pro-Marriage laws, it makes it less likely that a federal court or the federal legislative branch will impose same sex marriage on the entire U.S. This is essentially the same argument about Abortion. I am morally opposed to Abortion and believe that Roe V. Wade should be overrturned. However, I do not believe that Abortion will ever be totally outlawed in the U.S. The best I personally hope for is for McCain to get elected, appoint more judges in the late Rehnquist, Roberts, and Alito mold and have Roe overturned and have it sent back to the states. At that point, my state of Louisiana would enact stricter abortion laws, as would most of the South. States on the left coast would probably have more liberal abortion laws. At least at that point, politicans accountable to the voters will make a decison which is better than what happened when the Supreme Court by Judicial fiat shoved abortion down the throats of the entire U.S.
In summary, I am confident that McCain would appoint constructionist judges which all types of conservatives, Social and foreign policy, like me, and economic and immigration conservatives, etc could support.

The great thing about the Texas marriage amendment was that it not only prohibited state recognition of "gay marriages", but it also prohibited recogintion of any thing like "civil unions" that resemble the legal status of marriage. It also prohibited any other unit of government within the state from recognizing or recording either "gay marriages" or "civil unions". This of course was targeted at Travis county to prevent them from giving employment benefits to the "significant others" of unmarried public sector employees.
Since I will not vote for a RINO like McLame and there is no way I’d support either Obamma or Mrs. Clinton the only reason to vote for me here in Florida is to support the amendment ensuring marriage is ONLY between a man and a woman.
