But shouldn't we then vote only for the remaining candidates then and avoid further splitting the conservative vote among those who have dropped out already? By splitting the conservative vote 10 ways, McCain has gained so much apparent support. I don't see what you hope to achieve by advocating the same.

This is why I ask: what am I missing?

Clearly they were not willing to unite around anyone else either. At least Ron Paul and Huckabee are still standing.
