I thought he pretty much already did that with his "I got the message / secure the borders first."
Then he could beg Fred Thompson to be his running mate, and say something like Fred will be my closest and most trusted advisor when I am President
Fred was my pick. So, it wouldn't disappoint me one little bit should McCain choose Thompson.
But, I do expect . . . without any real reason for expecting it . . . for McCain to choose someone with solidly respectable conservative credentials.
Thanks.
“I thought he pretty much already did that with his “I got the message / secure the borders first.”
No, that was far from good enough.
How has he “got the message” when he also said that he would sign the amnesty bill if it came across his desk???
You’ve got to be kidding?
Secure the borders first...before what? Amnesty?
McCain was dancing around the issue trying to evade the true message. It wasn’t the border fence people were truly angry and calling Congress about. It was AMNESTY.
A small fine followed by the opportunity to gain US citizenship is sill amnesty. The value of US citizenship will always be far greater than any financial penalty the government could exact from an illegal. In other words, citizenship, even if it follows a fine, will represent a net gain, not a penalty. Such a government program is still amnesty.
I’n not interested in McCain promising to close the border after we’ve already allowed the invasion. I want the illegals out...forever!
