Dr. John Ross of Harvard University states - correctly :-) - that the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics applies for all systems, open and closed. And one could argue that there is - aside of the universe - no really closed system.
But most times, it's just not convenient to look at the universe in toto. You wouldn't deny that there are places in the universe where there is a decrease of entropy, would you?
Intelligent design points to the existence of an intelligent Creator. Evolution on the other hand has no such proof or evidence. It contradicts both common sense and reality as well as known scientific law.
How does evolution contradict the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics? The beautiful example of the snowflake - and crystallization in general - shows that there is the possibility of a local decrease of entropy, though the general entropy increases....

Evolution contradicts science, common sense and every-day experience - that the natural state of things are toward randomness. It takes a great leap of faith to believe Scientific materialism (essentially Darwinist evolution) stated in the original article in this thread: —the claim that everything in the universe can be fully explained by science as the products of unintelligent matter and energy. It takes more faith to believe in evolution than to believe in God.
