Berkeley, CA: It's Time For You To Support Our Troops

Berkeley, California is probably a very nice place to live, but the recent action of their City Council has consequences. To spit in the eyes of the United States Marine Corps will not stand.  We shouldn't allow cities to play silly games at our troops' expense -- during a time of war -- and continue to shower them with special taxpayer handouts.

That is why I will propose legislation rescinding Berkeley’s earmarks and transferring the funds to the Marine Corps.

Over $2 million was secretly tucked away for Berkeley earmarks in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill.  These were projects that were never even voted on or debated.  Two of the earmarks provide gourmet school lunches in the Berkeley School District, while our hard working Marines eat basic MRE’s.

Let me be clear, my bill does not make the rescission of these earmarks contingent upon the Council changing its decision, or any future action. It does not cut off all Federal funds to the City of Berkeley.

Meanwhile, the Marines will continue to bring peace, security, and freedom to the citizens of Berkeley, whether they like it or not.  There is a well known slogan outside the Marine Air Base in Beaufort, SC warning passersby of the jets’ loud noises.  The slogan says, “The noise you hear is the sound of freedom.”

The irony is the Marines are glad to do it and that is why most Americans are so proud of them.

Update: Michelle Malkin has detailed coverage of the Berkeley outrage. Go to her site for links to video
of the City Council in action and photos of Code Pink protesters.

maybe a draft is in order, and college students needed first, this time, owing to the high tech gadgetry and all.

Senator DeMint encourages Patriot American Marine/Military supporters to watch this video with these words:
Please watch this video and forward it to all your friends and family. Berkeley needs to learn that their actions have consequences. Patriotic American taxpayers won't sit quietly while Berkeley insults our brave Marines and tries to run them out of town.

Ah, Berkleyites...

Perhaps you should put your dope down for a few and check out some youtube vids of what the Marines did to Fallujah...

Thanks for your service Gunny Sir.

And the comment.

This was suggested on another thread with With This Follow Up

It's interesting that you should mention Fallujah as Medea Benjamin, leader of code pink (who are embedded in Berkeley and the city council and apparantly the Police), sent $600,000 dollars to the terrorists and their families which enabled them to recuperate and buy more weapons with which to kill Iraqis (and our fine Troops) as they went about their business of freeing Iraq from tyranny.

Get the funds for the sandal-making classes too. And the bong-blowing school.

Maybe, just maybe, if we started treating enemy sympathizing cowards and traitorous filth as the law, custom and tradition has always required such human scum be treated, then maybe, just maybe, treason would be less trendy.

Just pull a battleship to the bay and flatten the city.

It is very comical, how some CA politicians are claiming that the feds are taking school lunches away from their kids, while the lunches in question are foie gras, king crab legs, nine grain muffins, organic cereal, "Comté cheese soufflé with mâche salad,” “Meyer lemon éclairs with huckleberry coulis” and “Chicory salad with creamy anchovy vinaigrette and olive toast.” All paid for with 2.3 million something of taxpayer earmarked dollars. etc. etc.

When I was in school we had to eat those square pizzas with reheated frozen corn on the cob on the side (half an ear). Unless I brown bragged it, which was usually better.

Thanks for bringing that up.

The Berkeleyite yarnbags are typical liberals.

It’s for the children.

Don't trust McCain to stand up for the military!

We need one page of these that are fronts and, one page of these for the backs, that we can print and cut, to fill the prepaid envelopes from the RNC and the ACU.

There will be a price to pay for supporting McCain.

We can vote conservative on Senate and House primary seats, and vote for anyone other than McCain on the Presidential seat, including a democrat in the general election.

Excellent video.

Berkeley should be walled off and sold to North Korea for a dollar. They’ll have the gay communist paradise they’ve always wanted.

An email sent out by Melanie Morgan, Chairman and Co-Founder of Move America Forward:

Senator Jim DeMint’s office has put together an OUTSTANDING video that shows you explicitly what the City Council Members of Berkeley said about our Marines and their efforts to force them to leave the city. (They include comments from the Mayor who says he’s working with Code Pink, and that the Marines “don’t belong here in Berkeley.”)

The video also includes rebuttal by veterans of this nation who are outraged by the conduct of this American city council, and they call upon you to sign the petition at http://www.MoveAmericaForward.org

We’ll deliver the signatures personally to the Berkeley City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 12, 2008. We’re also asking for you to join us for our pro-troop rally that day (we’ll be right outside the Berkeley City Council chambers). Complete details are posted at our website.

Now go watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCXqYvJ0DaA&;

Post the video to blogs, send it to email lists, forward it to your friends!

I read the links you included - how very appropriate! Great to see that principled Conservatives are not going to give into the socialist hoards just yet. Were I not in Virginia, I’d be there with them...

Wonderful. Liberals don’t like to be held accountable for anything so this should really piss them off.

Take the trough away from pigs and watch them scramble to get it back.

Oh they are mad! Some other threads have quotes from the hardline Council members that they ARE NOT going to back down.

I kinda hope they don't, give them enough rope and they will hang themselves.
