Unlike McCain, Hitler 'Had a Coherent Tax Policy,' Coulter Says By Matt Purple CNSNews.com Correspondent February 08, 2008
(Clarification: Ann Coulter's appeared at the Omni Shoreham hotel but not at CPAC.)
Washington (CNSNews.com) - In a speech at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C., Friday, just down the hall from the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), author Ann Coulter said that the primary difference between Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Adolf Hitler was that Hitler "had a coherent tax policy."
Coulter compared a potential alliance between disillusioned conservative Republicans and Sen. Hillary Clinton to the alliance between Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin during World War II, which was formed to defeat Hitler.
"I'm not comparing McCain to Hitler," she added. "Hitler had a coherent tax policy."
The remark received wild applause from the audience of about 500 conservative activists. Many in the crowd seemed hostile to the idea of a McCain presidency and cheered Coulter's attacks on the Arizona senator.
Coulter also criticized McCain for his sponsorship of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill, accused him of wanting amnesty for illegal immigrants, and mocked his frequent touting of his military service in Vietnam.
"Couldn't we pick a POW who doesn't want to shut down Guantanamo?" she said.

Yep. It is.
I’m no fan of McCain’s, but it looks like Ann has jumped the shark with a comment like that.
The reality is that we are treed. This is 1964 redux - no way the Republican candidate wins, and no way the Republican base turns out to vote for their congressmen and Senators either. We can't do well in the congressional/senate races because as far as we are concerned this is an of-year election rather than a presidential election. You and I can do whatever we want, but our turnout will be mediocre and the Democrats' turnout will be big.
We had better pray.
Her blather isn’t going to help the conservative cause.
Go Annie, Go
Frankly, I can't imagine who would be more a more irritating in a relationship: Hillary or Ann.

I don’t think so. I don’t feel like giving up. Too much is at stake. I will vote against Clinton or Obama. Period. Never give in, and never give up.
This is not about "The Party". This is about not losing a strategically vital war that America cannot afford to lose.
The "Parties" be damned.
Given the choice between Joe Lieberman (D) as Commander-in-Chief and Ron Paul (R) as Commander-in-Chief, I would choose Lieberman as the physical safety of America would be in grave peril under Ron Paul.
This is sad and emabarrasing for Ann. She was once a brilliant and funny commentator- but her brilliance is now dimmed by something ugly- not quite sure what to call it- but it’s a damned shame.
She needs some help.
Ummm .... What happened to Fred?
“with a Democrat controlled Congress”
Whose to blame for THAT?
I am a lifelong Independent Conservative, and I having never been prouder to not be a member of either Major Party. Conservatives will do alot better without being shackled to the Republicrats/Demicans.
Ann Coulter is a principled Conservative. Why should she have any shame? McCain has stuck his thumb in the eye of EVERY conservative in the country when he sided with the Rats on so many important issues. Does he thing that one lousy speech is going to make us forget McCain-Fiengold? or McCain-Kennedy, or McCain-Leiberman?
Ann is simply exercising her right to free speech - while she still can. Moreover, she is voicing opinions that MANY of us have. The Conservative base will NOT be led to watr and made to drink...
She’s gone over the edge, and I own 2 of her books. This business with McCain borders on lunacy. This is the woman who didn’t like Fred because of the impeachment vote, yet she’ll support Hillary over McCain. That’s irrational.
Her stupidity has flown straight over my head
I recall that the same thing happened in the 06 congressional elections.
How's that werkin' out fer yah?
Who's salivating? Ann's body has never done it for me........what I do find attractive is her wit and her ability to nail every crapweasel she takes aim at......plus the added bonus of watching supporters of said crapweasel feign outrage rather than face the fact that the aforesaid crapweasel doesn't have an economic plan.
She has more balls than most of the wimps in the Congress and the Senate that's for sure.
Stalin murdered a lot more people than Hitler did and I see Hillary being compared to Stalin all the time. Telling a joke about hitler having a better tax policy though is just soooooo indicative of someone who is unstable. Lighten up, it was a joke for pete’s sakes. She wasn’t calling him Hitler or saying he was like Hitler.
She has more balls than most of the wimps in the Congress and the Senate that's for sure.
