RUSH: I want to go back to the archives of this program. I want to illustrate for you my prescience. When I tell you that you are on the cutting edge of the societal evolution if you are a regular listener here, this will establish it. October 18th, 2006. This is prior to the November elections, the midterms, and I was getting phone call after phone call from conservatives saying they were not going to vote. They were mad as hell. They were sick and tired of the Foley thing and Macaca. They were sick and tired of Republicans not governing as Republicans, and to hell with it, and this is what I said to them.

RUSH ARCHIVES: This notion that it doesn't matter who wins because the Democrats aren't going to have a big enough majority? That's going to lead to another thing that I will share with you. It's going to lead to the nomination of John McCain for the Republican presidential candidacy. In two years, you same people who will have helped bring about an ascension to power by the Democrats, are going to be so angry -- you're going to be so fed up -- over what they have tried to do, over the things they will maybe have

“It can only be fixed by getting the right candidates recruited that can persuade and reach large numbers of people.”

What you are saying here then is that our Candidate must be able to be persuasive of his/her Conservative credentials, and he/she must excite/win over the MSM sufficiently, or be wealthy enough to self bankroll his/her candidacy, thus be able to purchase Media to enhance his/her ability to reach large numbers of people?

Is that what you are saying?

>The primaries should be restricted to republicans only, and there is no reason to have them so early.<

In addition, we need a national day to vote in primaries. Heck, McCain has been handed the nomination, and folks like me haven’t even voted yet!

And those whiners in Broward County Florida want to cry about disenfranchisement?

Persuasive of his conservative credentials but not just conservative idealogy. He must reach moderates and independents therefore his appeal must transcend conservatism and have sufficient common sense that broad groups can get behind. In other words do what Reagan did and George W. Bush promised.

So this idea of just getting behind conservative purists who cannot persuade is meaningless and futile. Just like principles without brains. It is essentially preaching to the choir.

MSM excitement and buzz is desired also but not support as they will never support a conservative. But if a persuasive conservative like Reagan generates sufficient buzz, news and garners masses of voters they will cover it. There are also alternatives to MSM now anyway.

In essence what’s needed is a conservative leader that can herd the cats.

Rush is like Dick Morris in that he makes so many different predictions that he is guaranteed to be right no matter what happens.

You made quite a few predictions yourself. I've never heard Rush say anything contrary to the statement in this thread.

I was a Thompson supporter, but the number of freepers who still see him as some kind of conservative savior even after his lackluster campaign is somewhat disturbing.

Thompson *failed*. He has good position on the issues but he was a lousy candidate. And no amount of support from Rush was going to drag him across the line. When Thompson jumped in he was instantly the co-frontrunner. If he could run any type of half way decent campaign he’d be the nominee now. Thompson has only himself to blame.

You’re right.

The bottomline is that we are not electing the pope. perfection is not possible, nor required.

We win by pushing everyone to move further to the right than they would be without us. Not by moving everyone to our ideal position.

The idea that the conservative movement is a failure because McCain got the nomination is after some consideration a false conclusion. If we succeeded in moving McCain much further to the right than he would had been before, that’s *already* a victory.
