Well, actually, in Emacs the default bindings for many modes usually have both CTL-DEL and ALT-DEL bound to the function backward-kill-word, but you can always change those key bindings to any key combination convenient -- and you can always redefine the backward-kill-word function on the fly also. ;-)

I'd use emacs, but I figure using an entire operating system just for an editor is kind of overkill :-)

Strange thing is, that in my preferred shell, I actually prefer emacs command-line editing to vi-style command line editing.

One of the cool things about unix, is there are so many utilities and things out there that you can always find something that works the way you do.
