The Bush administration cited poor performance and redundancy in its proposal to eliminate or slash the budgets of 151 federal programs in fiscal 2009. The cuts, touted during the president's State of the Union address and outlined in budget documents released Monday, would save approximately $18 billion.
The cuts are listed in Table S-5 of the summary tables included in the budget proposal. They include the termination of 104 discretionary programs and significant funding reductions for 47 others.
Look over Table S-5. We needed this sooner. Seems like Bush went along with high budgets when the Republicans controlled Congress, but found his gonads now that the Dems control it.
The IRS, DoE, DOE, Berkley, the UN.......
Yawn. Its BS. He’s proposing something that doesn’t start until one month prior to the election.
In other news he will propose getting rid of illegals in 2010, tax cuts in 2011, and English as the official language in 2012. Roe vs Wade will be outlawed in 2013. Wow, what a great president!
Glad to see that a lot of wasteful domestic programs took it in the shorts.
Now if only he started on this foot seven years ago.
If only..If only... sadly... had he done this 3 years ago.
After the dem congress gets hold of this budget it will have all of those cuts turn to increases, I’d love to see a knock down drag out fight over it, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
You’re wrong. This budget will carry on through until Oct 2009. The new president will have to live with this budget his first 9 months.
“After the dem congress gets hold of this budget it will have all of those cuts turn to increases, Id love to see a knock down drag out fight over it, but I dont think thats going to happen.”
You hit the nail on the head.
. . . Youre wrong. This budget will carry on through until Oct 2009. The new president will have to live with this budget his first 9 months.
Election is November 2008, "fiscal year 2009" starts October 2008, 1 month prior to election.
1. What am I wrong about?
2. You really think the dem congress is going to go along with it one month prior to an election?
This is gonna leave a mark.......LOL!
Way to go GWB!
It will be fun though. I can see them now......BWAAAAAAAA!
DID you notice this:
Border Security and Other (2008)9.3 (2009)5.4
Looks like a cut in the Border security of almost 4 billion.
FY09 starts 1 Oct 08 and goes through 30 Sep 09. New president will be inaugurated Jan 09. Thats Jan - Sep 09, more than 1 month by my count.
Yep, and if I said 1 month prior to inauguration you'd be correct. Read again what I wrote:
"Hes proposing something that doesnt start until one month prior to the election. Election is November 2008, "fiscal year 2009" starts October 2008, 1 month prior to election.
Bush is trying to build his conservative legacy. Too little, too late.
Stand corrected.
