I wonder if this is to make his supporters move to Huckabee to defeat McCain?

He suspended his campaign...does that mean he actually dropped out?

The actual phrase he used was “step aside.” It is not yet clear what that means about the delegates he already has or any plans for the national convention.

I heard his speech at CPAC...magnamous and best he’s made. He ran a good campaign; I suggest next time he tries he might consider Reagan’s 11th commandment and easing up on the attack ads against his fellow GOP opponents.

A vote for Huckabee, given the low probability of Huck getting the delegates to win outright, is now a PURE vote for a contested convention. Vote. Huck. Stop McCain.

Why should he have let up, none of them did, especially not Huckabee.

Get real ...Huckabee stands no chance. He’ll be right behind Romney, and will hold out hope (false I hope) that he can get the VP. Best chance for republicans id Mcain with a VP like Romney. ..Don’t think it can happen because the animousity between McCain and Romney...two words...Vodoo Economics

Obama has no chance. He was a set up from the start IMO. He has zero experience, he has a Muslum name and if Obama gets the Democratic Nod, when people actually have to come terms with actually pulling the lever for such an unknown quantity as Obama, it would give the republicans a big victory IMO. The best chance the dems have is Clinton and she needs to pick a more standard type of candidate like a Dodd or Edwards or some other suit to win.

My opinion is:

Clinton/Edwards vs McCain/Romney

I’m with you there. He’s really our only chance now.

“If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention … I’d forestall the launch of a national campaign and frankly I’d be making make it easier for Senator Clinton or Obama to win,” Romney told the Conservative Political Action Conference. “Frankly, in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror.”

This is the first thing that Romney has ever say that has made me think positively about him. If he can establish a record of support for conservative ideas, he will have a real chance at the Presidency in four or eight years. It was just too early for him this year, and he came off to me and to many others as if he were trying to buy he way into our hearts.

I wish Romney would have fought on a little longer but since he is a good and decent man, I really don’t think this country deserves him as president.

I agree. If we can hand Huckabee state after state, he could probably never catch McCain, but it would send a strong signal.

I think it means if McCain drops dead, not out of the question, Romney is back in.

Clinton/Edwards vs McCain/Romney

If so, then it's a landslide win for the Dims because neither McCain or Romney can draw votes in the South.

The article states, “By suspending rather than quitting he will be able to continue to collect donations from contributors.” (Yeah, uh, that makes sense?)

A great concession speech by Romney
as he honorably bowed out
of the presidential race:

"I have to stand aside..."
