I hate to say this, but I believe that it's the truth... As terrible as September 11, 2001 was, we got off easy. Had they crashed the plains into the towers a few hours later, and had the towers come right down, and had the "bathtub" holding the river out of the subway system broken (and it was close to being breached), the death toll would probably have exceeded 50,000 lives, maybe into the hundreds of thousands.
Most people are blissfully unaware of how close to this sort of massive loss of live we were.

The first World Trade Center attack (1993) was intended to topple one tower onto the other and result in 100,000 deaths. Due to a low explosive budjet and sturdy construction this did not happen. The principle planner, did however, escape, traveling with an Iraqi passport.
