I think the more pertinent question should be why are Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn, and Barbra Streisand still HERE, since they actually DID threaten to leave if Bush were elected back in 2000.
And of course the party elites who once again managed to arrange the process so as to raise the bar for conservative candidates. The party controls the primaries, deciding which states go early, allowing the "centrist" (read more leftist) candidates to build momentum early on. Then the MSM kicks in with both support for those "centrists", in part by not covering the more conservative ones at the same level, and in part by the "horse race" type coverage, which is aided by the "Big Mo" talk.
They screwed up once and Ronald Reagan got in, but they've worked hard to be sure THAT doesn't happen again. They failed to defend the likes of Newt Gingrich, or even the ex Dem social conservatives (there really were some) who let their mouths run ahead of their brains a little.
IOW they've been spineless in the face of the enemy, but very aggressive against the right wing of their own party. They couldn't even make an effort to pass a repeal of the unconstitutional Ugly Gun Ban, after Mr. Newt got the House to the pass the repeal, just as he'd promised he would if conservatives swept the DemonRats from power, which they did in 1994.
They can just keep up this sort of thing, but they should not expect conservatives to take that kind of treatment forever.
I have zero confidence that the same thing won't happen if McCain is elected. He was a major force behind the obstructionists of judicial nominations, and of the Constitutional option to prevent filibusters of the same. known as the Gang of Fourteen. One the the major reasons, along with McCain-Fiengold, McCain Kennedy, and McCain-Lieberman. (M-F == free speech restrictions, M-K == amnesty, M-L == carbon taxes) for finding him completely unacceptable.
No, we’re sticking around to pick up the pieces, after McCain and the Huckster finish tearing it apart. We’re going to vote in the election, too, just not for a presidential candidate.
Then we’re going to appoint Mitt Romney to head the GOP, to whip McCain back in line.
And which of those polices is not also a McCain policy? CFR is just as much a violation of the first amendment as the Fairness Doctrine. You forgot "tanking the economy to prevent Global warming", which both 'Rat candidates and McCain are on board for.
“When there ceases to be a difference between the parties or a benefit to voting Republican, then it is time for a third party. I’m not there yet, but your logic is doing nothing to keep me in line.”
Oh, I see. So the conservatives, who couldn’t even win the Republican primary, are going to start their own party and beat both the Democrats *and* Republicans? Think about what you’re suggesting, man. It’s goofy.
And by the way, I am also disappointed that McCain seems on his way to winning the nomination. But as bad as he is, he is no Hillary. People who think he is as bad as Hillary need to educate themselves on Hillary (or Obama for that matter). Ann Coulter let her emotions get the better of her on this one.
Yes, Hillary voted for the war, but she did so only for political expedience. At the time, the national opinion was heavily in favor of the war. It was nothing more than a “finger to the wind” vote on her part.
Bush had the chance to vanquish McShame by not signing CFR and having this fight years ago. Based on history, Bush was a fool. F McLame and his crooked propoganda tortise.
Ditto.
I agree....
I’ll make the best with what we got, fight on, work for change, learn from our mistakes, YES we got complacent, and never give up.
Any questions?
its the Rats that had better be prepared for a very thorough rectal exam.....
there will be no honeymoon....even for McCain....
No. Its reasoned. I'm quite capable of holding my nose and voting for the most conservative, but when there is no perceivable difference, or the Republican will do more harm than good for the conservative movement, then its time to start building the party. McCain and Hillary will both deliver socialist liberal policy. Conservatives will be in no place to offer an alternative in 2012 if they have tied their kite to McCain.
If a candidate wants the conservative vote, they need to appeal to conservatives. There is no value in getting a socialist Republican elected, and the "anything but" platform has always been a loser.
I asked you to explain how McCain is better than Hillary on a multitude of important issues from illegal immigration to global warming. The only one you felt you could answer to was the prosecution of the war. And on that I don't think that you understand the practicality of the situation. The next POTUS will execute a drawdown in Iraq no matter who they are and on about the same timeframe (as already planned). If its a Republican, the MSM will say its too slow. If its a Democrat, the MSM will praise it as just right.
Interesting that you blame conservatives for not backing "the Republican Candidate", when McCain has made a career out of sticking knives into the Republican Party. But now, if we don't back him, we're being disloyal. That's a load. If the Republican candidate loses in November, it will be because there was no conservative choice, not because conservatives refused to vote socialist. And the lesson in that will at least be constructive to building a stronger party.
I’m not going anywhere. I registered with the American Independent party. The Democrats and Rupublicans can run for office in Mexico...
To hell with the presidential race. Let’s concentrate on the races that really matter...Senate and House.
Well, you know it ain’t #4. Of the rest, only #8 fits the context.
I still refuse to vote for him. Even if it means a Democrat gets in.
