You doubt the Iranians subs can go to 200 feet and take out a cable laying on the bottom? They're not really designed for it, but we have a Seawolf class sub designed to tap underwater cables.

That would be USS Jimmy Carter, SSN-23 (no thread-jacking comments on that name, please). During construction she was cut in half and had a 100' extension inserted aft of her sail. Extension contains a wet-well and all sorts of batcave-type equipment to support divers and submersible/underwater ROVs.
The Carter is so advanced and sensitive that she's homeported with the Pacific Trident sub force at the Trident base in Washington State. The first two Seawolfs, Seawolf and Connecticut, are now/will be (CT just arrived) homeported there as well, partly to consolidate the class in one homeport for logisitical/supply-chain reasons. I wonder whether Carter's out on deployment now ...
