Why would he be no help? There is a rule taught to all politicians. Vice Presidential nominees can't help a candidate they can only hurt him. For Example Kerry picked Edwards for his VP in 2004. The idea was the former Senator from North Carolina could carry North Carolina for Kerry. Kerry knew the race would be very close, but if Edwards carried North Carolina then Bush could win Ohio and Kerry would still be president. Edwards did not carry his state. People don't say... "I was going to vote for Bush, but since Kerry has Edwards as his VP .. well that changes my vote to one for Kerry." That does not happen. People do not say, "Well I was not going to even bother to vote... but since Kerry is the VP nominee ... that changes my mind." After you get past Kerry's Mom there are not many people left in that category.
