It just hasn't happened in living memory. And maybe ultimately we have a system that will result in a two party dynamic, but that doesn't mean it will always be THESE two parties. Past performance is not a predictor of future results. Truth is stranger than fiction because things happen in real life that would be completely implausible if somebody made them up.
They keep squeezing us conservatives, backing us into a corner. I have no idea what's going to happen, but the status quo is unacceptable.
Hickabee crowing in Ark now. Maybe this will be his Dean Scream moment.
See how much he cares about the people of Arkansas? He doesn't even mention the disaster we had tonight.

Bingo. The GOP gained momentum over the Whig's primarily due to the Abolitionist movement as slavery became increasingly abhorrent but neither existing party at the time was effectively dealing with the problem.
I believe we now live in the same type of political environment vis a vis abortion, gay marriage, and now amnesty. Neither 'existing' party is effectively dealing with these issues many conservatives have problems with and there is more and more disenchantment within the GOP rank and file conservatives. And this disenchantment and feeling of betrayal is not going to go away -- its going to get stronger which may indeed ultimately result in the break away of conservatives into another party. JMO
