February 5, 2008 Mike Huckabee is making a furious charge in some Deep South states, and his efforts are showing up late in our polls. Whether he has run out of time, or whether he is about to pave yet another hairpin turn on the road to the White House will be known in a matter of hours. Our Monday InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion Research polls show Huckabee pulling even with John McCain in Georgia, and surging into the lead in Alabama.
Here are the overnight Georgia numbers:
Mike Huckabee 32%
John McCain 32%
Mitt Romney 29%
Ron Paul 3%
Other 1%
Undecided 3%
The poll surveyed 1,212 likely voters in todays Georgia Republican presidential primary. The margin of error is 2.7%. All data have been weighted for age, race, gender and party affiliation. Here are the Alabama numbers:
Mike Huckabee 38%
John McCain 29%
Mitt Romney 20%
Ron Paul 6%
Other 1%
Undecided 6%
The poll surveyed 566 likely voters in todays Alabama Republican presidential primary. The margin of error is 3.8%. All data have been weighted for age, race, gender and party affiliation.
Go Huck! Bring us some southern states today. Romney supporters in the South should vote Huck to stop McCain.
The south isn’t enough.
The Left is using Huck to stop Romney. The Ross Perot strategy. Works every time.
IMO, Mike Huckabee is the quintessential "flim-flam" man. He appealed to, and used (in every sense of the word), a disenchanted segment of the electorate - the social conservatives. The loser in all this (besides the social conservatives) is the Republican Party (otherwise we would have Fred Thompson right now rather than John McCain). Again, from Peggy Noonan's Jan. 5, '08 column:
"I'm sorry to say it is my sense that Mr. Huckabee is not so much leading a movement as riding a wave. One senses he brilliantly discerned and pursued an underserved part of the voting demographic, and went for it. Clever fellow."
Are you crazy? Huck is to the left of McCain.
Silly words like Hucka-surge make me want to Hucka-hurl.
John McCain supports funding of embryonic stem cell research.
Mitt passed into law a large health care plan in MA knowing full well that he had to by law include the killing of unborns in the plan - after his supposed switch to life.
Say what you will, but Gov. Huckabee supports life. His justices will reflect that when they are nominated to the Court. That is the most important aspect of this election.
More Hucka-poo.
If Huck drops I’m for McCain over Romney. Romney implemented universal healthcare (government funded) in Mass. and appointed homosexual activists as judges. Huck is far more reliable on the 2nd amendment as well. It is a joke to call Romney a conservative. Since McCain and Romney are libs I’m for Huck.
sw
Ha! That’s much more apropos.
The south isnt enough.

Neither is the west! I’ll say in advance that Romney didn’t play his chits wisely for the super-Tuesday race by making the decision to contest the southern states with no chance of winning them. We’ll see if I’m right tonight.
I say it again,,Huckabee/Obama take Alabama..
No Hucka-surge from me. My first two choices, Hunter and Thompson both dropped out. I pulled the lever for Romney and prayed I wasn’t making a mistake.
McCain is Hillary in drag except for the nomination of federal jusges and THAT is the ONLY reason I’ll vote for McCain in the general election IF he is the nominee.
Huckabee is suspect in several areas and the talk of a “living Constitution” is right out of the ACLU official phrase book. The only thing I like about Huckabee is the Fair Tax and he can’t get it through with a Democrat Congress.
As for Ron Paul, even though I’m a Libertarian-leaning Republican, his foreign policy might save lives in the short run, but in the long run, it is a triumph for radical Islam and will cost us more lives in the end.
Hence, Romney who sounds good but whose conservative track record is SHORT. But, if I have to guess who is the most conservative and effective, Romney is my best bet.
It wouldn’t surprise me. There are a lot of undiscerning Christians in the South who are voting for the Huckster, which means we’ll be stuck with McCain as the nominee.
After all, Christians in the South also helped put Jimmy Carter in the White House because he was a Christian — not to mention a horrible President. It appears they’re being duped again.
“Beware of politicians and their religious rhetoric.” (Gary DeMar)
So what are we to think when Huck loses and endorses McCain?
I voted for him in Oklahoma because he was the only one that had a chance against McCain. I didn’t want our 41 winner-take-all delegates going to McCain.
I’m not even factoring Romney into this. I’m just telling you that from what I see Huck is to the left of even McCain.
