Wait a minute. The Gang of 14 ensured an up and down vote on the Senate floor for both Alito and Roberts. Alito was confirmed, 58-42. Had those 42 negative votes occurred on a cloture vote to end a filibuster, the nomination would have been defeated.
Or, they would have had to resort to a nuclear option to change Senate rules that would invoke cloture with a simple majority.
As I said, “Thank God for the Gang of 14”. Had the rules been changed and in effect when Harry Reid and the Democrats took over, the GOP would be in real trouble right now in the Senate.
Just because one is a Conservative doesn’t mean he has to play checkers when everyone else is playing chess.
I was more referring to your ‘Thank God for McCain’ comment. I didn’t delete enough verbage.
Are you happy with him in other areas? ie., all the McCain-(insert-Democrat-here) bills?
First we will only know if that is true come election day. I would predict that McCain has the possibility of drawing more independent votes to offset those who run home with their football when things don't go their way.
Secondly Larry Kudlow predicted tonight that McCain would be elected President with both houses of congress going democratic.
If I had to listen to someone I would respect his thoughts more than yours at this point. At least he would stay in the game, you would run when you can't have your way.
What makes you think McCain would appoint a Justice like Kennedy who would flush McCain-Feingold down the ole Constitutional crapper?
I believe that is true. However, it might be a feeling like the Christians who once stood in the middle of the Roman Coluseum.
If you say she don't stand as she stood, rock-bottomed and copper-sheathed, Ol' Dan'l is liable to r'ar right up out of the ground.
-- Steven Vincent Benet, quoted best as I can gather from my memory
Normally that would be a recipe for gridlock. I LIKE gridlock! The more time they spend fighting each other, the less time and energy they have available for screwing the taxpayers.
With McCain, it wouldn't be gridlock, the blizzard of new rules, taxes, restrictions, and entitlements would blaze out of Washington fast enough to break the sound barrier.
The democrats would have nothing to lose! They get their way on every bit of socialist legislation, and the republicans (via McCain) get the blame for all the consequences.
They ran against Hoover for 50 years and Nixon for a generation, they'll be able to run against McCain for a century.
True, the good old USofA will be an economic, moral, and cultural train wreck, but as long as they can rule over the debris, that's A-OK...
Why not follow the $ and see who ALL of them are receiving it from? Afraid you might find something you don’t want to know?
Hillary’s america might look allot like Jim Carter’s, she’s talking price fixing now.
...after four years she’ll lose easy to a strong conservative elected.
I did not hear Savage last night.
I seldom listen to him (but not because I don't like him.)
So he's thinking about the third party route to?
I say lets try to get as many conservatives elected this
time around then work on forming the third party and
then tell the Repubicans where to go. They can join
their leftwing comrades in the Democrat Party and reach
the true nirvana of bipartisanship.
....”Paul only doesnt have a chance for the same reason Hunter and Thompson didnt. Kinda hard to do that when all the big names in your own Party are pushing RINOs.”....
That is incorrect. Ron Paul doesn’t have a chance because he is nuttier than my aunt Julie’s fruitcake. He doesn’t deserve to be meantioned in the same breath as true conservatives like Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter!
I guess that Paul’s extremely low popularity in the primaries must mean that most conservatives don’t think that we should cut and run in Iraq!
He and his “Ronulans” need to beam themselves’ back to the planet Zatox.
Is all of that stuff "nut talk" you don't like? Or is it just his stance on telling the rest of the world to mind it's own matters and not expect us to play "globo-cop" under UN mandates that gets your knickers in a twist?
I’m not a Republican, I’m a conservative. The two are not synonymous by any means whatsoever. The past 8 years alone is evidence enough for anyone with an ounce of sense to recognize. As for a dose of reality, your candidate, the one the RNC, almost every former and current RNC chairman, and beltway RINO Republican party establishment hack and mouthpiece backed to the hilt against official party rules and long standing policies of impartiality; is going to lose the 2008 election.
Not because I and other genuine, bonafide conservatives will not support this lying liberal backstabbing fraud, but because he is a tired old man who is the epitome of a career politician and a beltway insider who offers nothing to the Republican voter base except virtually the same federal government expansionism, control, and intrusion into the daily lives of American citizens that the liberal Democrat opposition proposes and supports but with the difference that he is not Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.
Furthermore, those who call themselves “conservatives” and support this jerk, are not conservatives but pseudo-conservatives who conveniently use the label of conservative to mask their truly held big government, socialistic, centralized state control, open borders, globalist philosophy like Juan McAmnesty. So-called conservatives who have “stepped” up to support McCain have no legitimacy as conservatives even if they once supposedly did.
Besides, as I have said, the Republican RINO cowards who have resigned themselves to supporting an eager ally of the liberal political enemy and lifelong traitor to the cause of conservatism have clearly stated that conservatives like myself are not only unwanted by the “new” Republican direction, but unnecessary since our numbers will be more than made up by the “independents”, “moderates”, and “centrists” the party is courting and catering to.
I don’t see the justification for either threats, pleas. or condemnations of conservatives on behalf of the new liberal Republican direction against conservatives. After all, we are only vigilantes, racists, bigots, hatemongers, and idiots as President Bush, the RINO infested Senate, and Juan McAmnesty have repeatedly stated.
Even if John McCain were backed by a generally unified Republican party base, the fact that George W. Bush, his administration, and collective Republican failures and betrayals have thoroughly despirited, demoralized, disgusted, and disillusioned the Republican voter base and led to the electoral slaughter of Republicans in 2006; putting forth the same failed policies backing an even more liberal, inside the beltway career politican who was chief among those instigating these failures and betrayals is an electoral death wish the Republican party apparatus has brought on itself.
Conservatives cannot be tagged with this monumental stupidity, blindness, and total disconnect with the Republican constituent voter base already angry, disgusted, and livid at the abject failure of the Republican Party to serve its loyal base, not its own greedy, corrupt, vested interests.
Republican party hacks, who never gave a damn about the conservative voter base, can save their time running around screaming it’s the end of the world if Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama is elected over Juan McAmnesty. This tactic didn’t work in the 2006 election and it won’t work in 2008 because you have to offer positive solutions and concrete proposals to voter’s needs and concerns, not simply fearmonger about the opposition. People want to vote FOR something, not simply against someone else. That is the lesson Republicans have repeatedly failed to figure out.
Don't lecture me pal go in your corner and have fun there because you won't be electing anyone, other than leftists, for a long time.
You can kiss the Supreme Court, our national defense, and any future conservative victories goodbye. All Hail your new savior, Hilary Rodham Obama Reid Pelosi! You'll sure show us!
And you are so full of pure crap with the fantasy that some RNC cabal engineered MCCain's nomination. they don't even like him and it's nonsense. But I suppose Thompson should get it by virtue of a 4th place finish in South Carolina.
BTW Im not writing to you, I know you all too well. Hopefully some non jackass will read this. Thanks for the lecture, Hilary loves you.
....”So... which of Paul’s stances don’t you like? Property Rights? RKBA? Lower taxes? Controlled spending? Reduced size of the FedGov? Actual enforcement of the Bill of Rights? Free market capitalism? States regaining some of their control that the FedGov has usurped?
Is all of that stuff “nut talk” you don’t like? Or is it just his stance on telling the rest of the world to mind it’s own matters and not expect us to play “globo-cop” under UN mandates that gets your knickers in a twist?”....
Congrats! You win the cuppy doll for the most retarded post by a “Ronulan” yet! (And that is Extremely, Extremely, Extremely, hard to do!)
I have already stated my objection to his cultness.... But just for you I will cut and paste again from my last post:
....”I guess that Pauls extremely low popularity in the primaries must mean that most conservatives dont think that we should cut and run in Iraq!”....
Get it? (I bet not! But then most of you +++++’s just don’t want to get it! Do you?) Tell me again why you are on a conservative website? Perhaps you would be more comfortable on truther911.com of alexjones.com!
Get it?
Don't be such an a$$hole...
Your foul-mouthed drivel and bile-ridden tirade against genuine committed conservatives mirrors the same vile verbal garbage your mentally imbalanced and emotionally unstable candidate spews at conservatives in his own party and Republicans in general. If RINO frauds and liberal phonies wearing the Republican label committed a fraction of the time, effort, and emotional investment to pursuing and implementing the conservative agenda they always run on and promise, Republicans would not have has their asses handed to them on a silver platter in 2006 and likely again in 2008 and would not be in trouble now.
My refusal to support “rock-ribbed conservative” John McCain, Ted Kennedy’s bosom buddy, Vicente Fox’s grande amigo, and John Kerry’s party switching VP wannabe, is completely in line with opposing phony liberal scumbags regardless of the label they sport. However, please keep up the good PR relations and overtures to conservatives your post and the RINOs attack and smear campaign represents. I’m sure it will bring lots of angry, demoralized, disillusioned, and distrustful conservatives into your fold.
Once again, a deaf, dumb, blind, and detached Republican party establishment finds it easier to attack, assail, and smear its own instead of serving them, addressing their concerns and needs, and listening to their suggestions and complaints. In the end, once again, the fault for the repeated political failures, betrayals, and defeats will not be laid at the feet of the political traitors and frauds who created the failure, betrayal, and defeat, but the victims of such lies, sell-outs, and betrayals.
Until the Republican Party wakes the hell up and realizes that the problem lies with its own greed, corruption, stupidity, arrogance, and negligence; it will continue to lose voters and elections.
Oh grow up and live in the real world.
The difference is that both Hillary/Obama OR McCain will bring about ruination -- it can't be avoided either way. The only question is who's going to face the blame and the backlash -- the liberals, or the "conservatives" which is how the media will portray McCain (just as they do our current socialist president).
