Well, everybody in my family is making last minute decisions. Mother voted Huckabee, brother in law protest vote Obama, father McCain, husband Romney, 18yo daughter left house planning protest vote Obama but has since texted me she has changed to McCain as best bet to beat Obama or Hillary, 80 yo inlaws think Romney best but bet on McCain - not sure who they will vote for, sister unsure, me unsure. I thought this might be a good representation here in Alabama.
McCain will NEVER win the general election without the support of the Republican base....conservatives. If he wins decisively today, Hillary/Obama will rule the White House next year.
I say vote for whomever you want. McCain is polling at over 60% in NYS. Voting for Romney, Huckabee, or Paul won’t help any of them. I’m voting for Fred.
Indiana votes May 6 also. For POTUS, it’s a meaningless primary. Local races, different matter.
Should all primaries be on the same day nationally? That’s a matter for debate. If yes, Obama and McCain would not have had a chance, and we’d be talking about Giuliani v. Clinton already.

Many conservative folks will NOT VOTE FOR McCain even if he IS the nomminee.. if we do this to ourselves we DESERVE the HildaBEAST

However, despite his initial problems with McCain, a recent incident played a large part in instigating Santorum’s recent endorsement. “Something happened a couple of nights ago to me right after the Florida primary. I ran into someone who was with the McCain campaign and I know had spent some time down in Florida, that walked up to me at an event and before I could even say hello said, ‘We beat you.’ And I thought that to be a rather odd statement because I wasn’t on the ballot. So who is ‘you’? Who did they beat? They surely didn’t beat me, Rick Santorum.”
During the Ingraham interview, Santorum said that when the person who reveled in Romney’s defeat said “we beat you,” the word “you” meant “conservatives.” Asked if the person taunting him simply said “we beat you” as a McCain supporter speaking to a McCain critic, rather than a general indictment, Santorum said he still believes the comment was intended as an attack on the conservative base.
“This is how I took it: They [the McCain campaign] really are fighting against the base of the Republican party, the conservatives in the Republican Party, that’s what they see this as. Because certainly that’s what I represented in many respects,” Santorum said. “So I sort of said, ‘Wow, this really is a battle for who we are going to be as a party.’”

Me and 6 of my friends are going to support Romney. If McDole gets the nomination and Romney drops out, Bush’s lame duck session starts tomorrow, and a Democrat will be President.
Sound like you have quite a mixture of political views in your family.
I’m proud to say that all of my extended family conservative (disgusted with McCain and the Democrats). It’s pretty surprising considering our dysfunctional background ;)
Has anyone analyzed which states McCain is running well in, and figured out if these are going to help in the general?
The reason I ask is that I suspect McCain is doing well in “blue” winner take all states. Romney may well be the better choice if he does well in the “red” states, as these matter in the general.
Not sure if I am expressing my intuition clearly. I am no expert in analyzing this stuff.
Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, may have endorsed Romney this morning on the Laura Ingram show, a FReeper reported on another thread.
That really shows McCain’s mindset and that he hasn’t changed one bit.
If he wins the presidency, I’d be willing to bet my house but he will do all he can stick it to Republicans and conservativism. He might even switch to the Democratic Party, just so he could be in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Stopped on my way to work and pulled the lever for Mitt in Western New York. I was the 9th voter and the only one there at the time.
(I thought the old mechanical voting machines were supposed to be gone by now, but we’re still using them)
Good question. As much as the GOVT likes to interfere in lives, I think the people should put together some stricter laws governing how governments behave during elections.
