~”How about some fairness? Any defense of McCain on this or any other thread?”~

Knock yourself out.

~”Those who don’t support McCain (the nominee) are welcome to leave the party.”~

Oh, I plan to. I will be a write-in vote next November if McCain wins the nomination. I’d rather defeat Clinton in ‘12 than try to reelect John McCain. Don’t worry; I’m a Romney supporter, but this has nothing to do with Romney. I promised myself a year ago that I’d never vote for John McCain. The amnesty debacle only steeled my determination.

And I am far, far from the only one. John McCain cannot win the election without the very conservatives into whose face he has smashed the heel of his boot.

~”This is really sad the way you are attacking a guy like McCain.”~

A guy like McCain? A guy who has taken seeming delight in stabbing conservatism in the back for the last decade? A guy who has sold himself to the mainstream media for the proverbial forty pieces? A guy who has been instrumental in stonewalling so many conservative initiatives for the pathetic sake of his vaunted “bipartisanship?” A guy who has now resorted to smears and stalking horses to win? A guy who isn’t even -trying- to court conservatism in order to be elected?

That guy?

I await your “fairness.”
