Huckabee Accuses Romney of "Voter Suppression"

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- Mike Huckabee accused Mitt Romney of dirty politicking at a morning rally today, suggesting that Romney is telling voters that a vote for Huckabee is a vote against Romney.

On Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" last Thursday, Romney said: "I think most people recognize that a vote for Mike Huckabee is a vote for John McCain, and if they want John McCain as their nominee, why, that's exactly what that vote would do."

Today, Huckabee responded: "I know Mr. Romney has been trying to do a little voter suppression by telling people a vote for me is really a vote for John McCain."

"Let me tell you something, a vote for me is exactly what it is - a vote for me. A vote for somebody who hasn't just decided this year where he stands on the second amendment. ... It's a vote for somebody who knows where he stands on the sanctity of life. It's somebody who knows where he stands on the federal marriage amendment. ... It's somebody who knows where he stands on the Reagan legacy and the Bush tax cuts and hasn't changed his opinion."

Speaking to reporters after the event, Huckabee defended his use of the word "voter suppression."

"If you try to discourage people from voting for somebody, what else would you call it?" he asked, not apologizing for making such an accusation.

"Isn't voter suppression where you try to keep people from voting a certain way? By anybody's definition, if the goal of saying certain things or doing certain things is to discourage a person's voters, can anyone tell me otherwise? Isn't that voter suppression -- suppressing the vote, pushing it down, keeping people from feeling comfortable going and making the vote. I think that's exactly what we're seeing."

He sounds more like a loon every time he opens his mouth. He needs to shut up and get himself a late-night talk show, where he might actually be entertaining.

I really do not get it, but the guy is wired wrong sowing division and using the religion label for specific voters.... Seems mostly to turn them OFFFFF, those real sit at home or cross over voters.

Why doesn’t Huckabee just go away!

Just so you know, the polls show that the second choice of most Huckabee voters is McCain.

To quote "The Princess Bride" -- "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Be honest now, they all suck.

Damnedest thing I have ever seen.

We are going to get our asses kicked since the only winner in the general will be one of the 3 Democrats, Clinton, Obama or McCain.

Huckabee is only staying in the race to keep a Mormon out of the race. This shows how far he will go with his beliefs.

Huckabee blatantly lied about his record of raising taxes. He uses populist tactics to sway people with insinuations of wrongdoing.

He's staying in the race because of arrogance and pride, not because of faith in God.

From the article...

” But John Bailey, then the director of Arkansas’s state police, tells NEWSWEEK that Governor Huckabee’s chief of staff and personal lawyer both leaned on him to write a letter officially denying the local prosecutor’s request. Bailey, a career officer who had been appointed chief by Huckabee’s Democratic predecessor, said he viewed the lawyer’s intervention as improper and terminated the conversation. Seven months later, he was called into Huckabee’s office and fired. “I’ve lost confidence in your ability to do your job,” Bailey says Huckabee told him. One reason Huckabee cited was “I couldn’t get you to help me with my son when I had that problem,” according to Bailey.”

“Voter suppression!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!”

Sounds like Huckabee has been taking a few pages from Rev. Jessie, Rev. Al, the Klintoons, and AlBore. He’d have wowed them in FLA back in 2000! Since when is a candidate telling people not to vote for another candidate “voter suppression?”

Why Huckabee would have to explain how voter suppression works to the media, is beyond me:’)

Huckabee has turned into a nasty little whiner. He is merely upset because everyone knows he is McCain’s sock puppet.

He has no message at all and spends his time whining to voters.

Go Huck. Romney and McCain are not acceptable candidates. Huck raised taxes (by less than Romney by most measures) . . . and that’s the only nitpick conservatives have with him. Meanwhile Romney is hideous on the social issues as well as economic ones and McCain’s problems are obvious.

Sure, spread it around. We are hoping he gets in since it looks like none of this group of idiots will make it, even if they get elected.

We will need him to do to the country what he has done here, which is quietly and competently clean up the mess while everyone around him complains.

A thank you to my neighbor to the north. Are they still planning on fencing in Minn. and making it a national zoo? You can come back with a Iowa joke except Iowa is already a joke with the past two governors we have.

Well, as Monica said, don’t vote for another ex-governor from Arkasas. They last one left a really bad taste in my mouth.

Has Mike Huckabee ever had an IQ test?

Yeah.

It came back negative.
