Sen. John McCain is poised for a landslide victory in New York's Republican presidential primary, based on a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released Monday.

McCain, R-Ariz., widened his lead over former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., by eight percentage points in a single day.

McCain drew 53 percent support in the latest poll, compared to 19 percent for Romney, a gap of 34 points. McCain had led 49 to 23 percent in Sunday's tracking poll, a margin of 26 points.

New York's Republican primary will be held on Tuesday. The third major candidate, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., received 8 percent support both days.

The survey released Monday was conducted Feb. 1-3 by Zogby International, a Utica polling firm. Zogby interviewed 883 New York Republicans, resulting in a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

The Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll did not extend to the Democratic primary, where home-state Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., is expected to easily defeat Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

I find it hard to believe that the same folks who refused to allow Eliot “Troopergate” Spitzer to shove driver’s licenses for illgeals down our throats are going to turn around and vote for McCain.

Well, apparently our coalition against illegal aliens is a bit smaller than we imagined.

Yea, right.
California is not winner take all and JM / MR are tied.

In order for JM to “win” he has to win all delegates in every state - it is just not going to happen.

Current count (2/5/2008)

John McCain, Pledged: 95, Super delegates: 2
Total: 97

Mitt Romney, Pledged: 85, Super delegates: 7
Total: 92

Mike Huckabee,Pledged: 26, Super delegates: 3
Total: 29

Ron Paul, Pledged: 6, Super delegates: 0
Total: 6

New York is winner take all.
It doesn’t matter if McCain wins by one vote or a landslide.
I suspect that all of McCain’s supporters all live in New York.
Good, let’s keep them contained there.

I don’t think so. Spitzer had his head handed to him. Most of the state was howling mad. Even the ‘Rats. Then again, maybe the only folks voting will be the open borders RINOs. Conservatives may sit the primary out.

Most of NYS is made up of red counties you know. We aren't all lunatics :) Though Upstate's rapidly depopulating as the sane vote with their feet.

I can tell you that none of the remaining candidates will get my vote in the primary. I may plug my nose for the general, I have not decided yet.

.....” So I ask again. Do you really want McCain?”

I would prefer Gary Bauer, but he’s not running and wouldn’t win.

Mitt, cool guy, solid on some issues but a bit ‘flexible’ on many issues. B+

Huck, good guy, solid on some issues, a bit flexible on some issue, a bit odd on others. B-

Mac, solid on some issues, a bit too flexible on some. B-

Hillary, solidly off on every issue.... F-

I's still a registered 'Rat. So I'm gonna vote for Obama :)

Not sure what Mr. Mew, a registered Pubbie, is gonna do. I'm trying to talk him into JimRob's Huckabee strategy.

In the general election we'll both be voting for FDT. Whether he's running or not :)

I live in California not too far from Fresno here.. The "buzz" here is strongly in favor of John McCain.

I do not know anyone who would vote for Romney. I do know some who already voted absentee for McCain, and myself and others plan to vote for McCain. I think he'll sweep the vote on Tuesday here and everwhere.

I cannot vote for Romney. McCain has my vote - all the way.

So why isn’t Huckabee itching about McCain... since McCain appears to be taking all his votes?

I’ll be supporting Romney, he has the best economic argument to bring to the Democrats. McDole hands Democrats the White House.
