What kind of idiot (referring to Bremer) does not know that Arab civilization is based on tribes and bribes? It is the sheiks who arrange marriages, settle arguments, divvy up jobs and arrange all the bribes. It was the height of arrogance and ignorance to think you could change that system by snapping your fingers as a conqueror.

Even Ghengis Khan had better military sense than that.

C'mon now Bremmer's the one who rejected tribalism which even Saddam couldn't conquer. And 4 years later, guess what, -it worked! The Iraqis are now working together through shared power for a common future! Even the Iraqis think it's incredible but it was INSISTED that that was the only way a pluralistic, democratic republic could function.

Bremmer should be vindicated on his vision. Who'd have ever thought they'd work together for a common goal? A: Almost no one. But they have and they do and Iraq and those who guided them should all be recognized for their sacrifices and achievements.
