At one time current polling showed Giulliani as the run away winner and defeating Hillary.

The polling data is seriously flawed. It's just like the materials Karl Rove had that said the McShamnesty plan would be immensely popular with the Republican rank and file, and that even Conservatives would go along with it.

Those polls were wrong ~ terribly wrong.

The polls showing McCain beating the Clintonistas or Obamasama are without substance.
