Keyes: Romney responsible for same-sex marriage fiasco
Worldnetdaily ^ | February 3, 2008

Republican presidential candidate Alan Keyes may not get invited to the televised debates but that doesn't mean he's going stay out of the fray or attack his opponents when he believes they've abandoned his party's values – particularly on the issue of same-sex marriage.

On his campaign website this week, Keyes blasted former Gov. Mitt Romney for being "single-handedly responsible for instituting same-sex marriage in Massachusetts" for the way he responded to a state court ruling in 2003.

"Most people are unaware of the way Massachusetts came to adopt same-sex marriage," the former Reagan administration diplomat said. "They think the state's Supreme Judicial Court forced it to happen. That's incorrect."

"The court merely issued an opinion stating that, in its view, the existing marriage law was unconstitutional because it failed to allow persons of the same sex to marry," Keyes said. "The court then gave the legislature 180 days to 'take such action as it may deem appropriate in light of this opinion' – implicitly telling lawmakers to come up with a new marriage statute."

Thanks for the info.

But I’m still not supporting him on grounds that he’s a Mass liberal- there’s enough of his record that proves it, universal health care being the centerpiece.

Keyes? ROTFL!!! Poor Alan just doesn't know when it's time to say goodnight and fade into history.

His shrillness turned me off in 2000.

Mitt has more integrity and better demonstrated core principles than McCain.
His Pro-life conversion is fact-based and convincing.

MittWit explanations never contain any actual explanations. All they can do is call you names and screech about the source of the article.

They’ll claim they’ve ‘answered this 100 times’, but never have addressed the substance of the argument once.

Now, one of their higher-ups will respond to me or to you with an 800 word gibberish post that says everything and nothing at the same time.

Slick Willard is a joke and it’s an insult to conservatives that anyone is trying to pass him off as the conservative standard bearer. So, now the mantra is ‘So, you’d prefer McCain?’ I don’t know which I would prefer. Neither is anywhere close to acceptable and both will surely lose the general.

So, IMHO, if we’re going to get beaten in November, I’d like to see this new ‘coup’ of liberal governors and pseudo-Republicans like McCain get beaten straight up in the general, than see a phony, pandering joke like Romney validating their BS by losing ‘as a conservative’.

Just when you think Alan Keyes couldn’t be any worse, he gets worse.

Alan Keyes...as usual is right on target. Romney has big-time baggage.

I find it interesting that so many of you are quick to name call when someone disagrees with you

It's the prime directive from the Romney Sleaze Machine. With no real case where they can defend Mitt's liberal record their only choice is to employ the liberal tactic of destroying the messenger to silence him or her.

If you look at Romney's record (and not what he has said during this campaign since a candidate can promise anything), his record could very easily have been right out of the Democrat Party platform. McCain sucks, but Romney sucks worse.

Alan Keyes is wrong, as a simple search and read of any news articles from the time of the ruling will prove.

When the court ruled, we all knew what it meant. Anybody who now suggests that the court’s ruling was meaningless is re-writing history, poorly, and with little sense of logic.

Yes, there is a world where everything is exactly as conservatives wish it was, it’s called fantasyland, and we don’t live there, we live in the real world where facts matter.

On May 17 Romney executed something. Since when does SJC make laws?

The Leg did not act so Romney acted for them and showed excellent “leadership skills” in the process.

Way to go. Do 4 individuals actually run Mass? Where is the separation of powers?

At least the Democratic entrenched legislature wasn’t rolling over. In fact they played Romney like a fiddle using him as the fall guy/let the slick politician handle the situation. Again, great “leadership skills” shown by Romney.

“His Pro-life conversion is fact-based and convincing.”

The researcher says that it never happened, by the way, when did Ann Romney have her “pro-life” epiphany and what was it? The fact that he had so many new epiphanies when he decided to start campaigning is disturbing.

‘The Harvard University researcher with whom Romney met, Douglas Melton, has disputed Romney’s recollection of their Nov. 9, 2004, meeting in the governor’s Statehouse office.’

“Governor Romney has mischaracterized my position; we didn’t discuss killing or anything related to it,” Melton said in a December statement to The Boston Globe. “I explained my work to him, told him about my deeply held respect for life and explained that my work focuses on improving the lives of those suffering from debilitating diseases.”

It really does get old when yu have to reanswer the sme argument over and over again. You start to wonder why an honest seeker of truth can’t investigate the facts and realize that the answer is there and the charged are biased attacks ingnoring contrary evidence.

I expect this from the Bush haters. But from conservatives? I had always figured that they were more reasonable with the facts (explaining the rejection of liberalism).

Oh well.
