"Wheeler is no left wing whacko"
Correct, he is a right wing whacko.

screamed four-letter obscenities right in their faces in the Senate cloak room I'd love to do that too! It is time our politicians knew what we think of them.

This kind of stuff is incredibly hard to prove.
I have a lot of reasons to dislike McCain and a lot of disdain for him.
I have for years thought him unstable, not so much because of the rumors in the senate but just from watching and listening to him.
I made my judgement on his character though years ago as I watched a discovery channel special on the U.S.S. Forrestal.
Whether or not it was McCains fault that the missle went off doesn't matter. What mattered to me was seeing footage of barefoot boys in boxer shorts trying to save the ship. McCain still in a nomex flight suit went to sickbay got checked out and instead of responding to fight for the ship began to shake te hands of the wounded.
A man in a fire retardant suit and flight boots stood shaking hands as the ship burned. He even comments ( as a addendum to the film ) on how important he felt it was to "Thank the boys'
That set my image of him and I can't ever support him, theres no character. This was before the p.o.w. years.
I think you can still buy the video but I've not seen it rebroadcast in years.

Yes, hard to prove, and yes, he's ... er eh ...
special.
Given the times we live in, and who the choices might be, I don't know if that's disqualifying or not.
I find it really easy to remind myself that it's got to be anybody but Hillary.
So ... Romney for now (even though I know he sets of some "too slick for his own good" alarms in some folks) and likely McCain in the general if Romney goes down.
And it will be a while before I remove that Fred '08 bumper sticker from my car ;).

Wheeler is also a mis-info queen. While he mentions these confrontations, he doesn't mention the context.
Shelby voted with the dems against John Tower.
The Inhofe and Santorum confrontation was over whether or not the English Language provisions would be added to the body of the 2006 immigration reform bill. The draft legislation had already been circulated twice thru the Senate and the Senate, as a body, had rejected the English language provisions. Subsequently, Inhofe tried to add the English language provisions as an amendment to the bill. It was rejected by the Senate..

I have told so many people that the Clinton’s have tons on info on McCain. He’s left a trail for them for about 25 years now...it’s not like there’s nothing to find.
I know that on the surface he puts up a pretty good front, I had no idea that rage (and in turn “crazy”) was so close to that surface.
That’s not what scares me the most. I’ve said this on FR before, what concerns me is his history with melanoma. Why isn’t that being mentioned? I know personally a man who had it, was treated, thought it was gone, went to the ER one day with vomitting, and was dead in a week. We DON’T need that to happen to our President while he’s in office.

I don't think this should be posted here.
I believe this story, and believe this is _exactly_ what _should_ be posted here. It is not our job to kiss the rear ends of the "Republican leadership". The history of FR has one clear lesson. We lead--then reluctantly (and sometimes slowly) _they_ follow.
I had an interesting conversation with one of my wife's nieces last night. She teaches at a major midwestern university and was talking about her students and how different they were from previous generations. One of the shockers was how gullible and respectful of authority they were.
My comment--"that's un-american!".
So I will say to you what I will say from this point forward to any young people I may encounter:
If you want to follow leaders then go stand in line with the sheep.
If you to _be_ a leader come to FR and learn how to lead.
Lesson #1 is my tagline.
:-)

dont like John McCains position on the issues. However, I react very negatively to anyone who would disparage his patriotism. I dont think the public will tolerate it either. I do not think it will reflect well on anyone who trys this tactic. McCain is revered as a heroe by many of the Viet Nam generation. I do not, however, believe the same about Senator Kerry. Any attempt by anyone to downplay McCains experience in the Hilton would backfire in a massive way. The only chance Hillary has is to get John to blow up in public. If the Clintons use the tactics they have used on Obama on McCain they will lose in a landslide.
Many Republicans don't like McCain because he has stabbed them in the back but the truth is he is a moderate to Conservative Republican. He will get many crossover votes. He will get many male Democrats and probably many black Democrats who will be spurned by the eventual Hillary nomination. McCain is the kind of guy who can take New York and Connecticut and maybe even California in the general. I just hope he doesn't take Huck as his VP. My guess is Rudy.

Sorry, but I don’t buy any of it. He is a lefty RINO and I will have nothing to do with him. He disgusts me and I won’t vote for him ever. Amen

Any attempt by anyone to downplay McCains experience in the Hilton would backfire in a massive way.
Any direct attempt would backfire, probably so.
Everyone, on either side of the aisle, begins every McCain story with a genuine show of respect for his war experience. And his physical injuries remind one of that every time you see him. A frontal attack on that would be folly.
But I'll wager a pretty penny that the Clintons can find someway to exploit any contradictions or unfortunate angles on that POW experience (even if they have to fabricate them ;).
The Clintons are the Jack Bauer of American Politics, in the sense that they can turn anything into a lethal weapon. (Apologies to Jack for that comparison.)

Thanks for the post. McCains actions in regard to the North Vietnamese have not made any sense and I have suspected that they held the “goods” on him. Among those of us who were involved nothing is as low as someone who aids and abets the enemy...at the expense of your fellow Americans. Sadly I suspect even more now that McCain may have been one of those.

Good point ... McCain's handling of the POW/MIA investigations caused outrage in the families of those missing.
Something was not right there.
