Flawed Cindy McCain has a grudge list

Flawed Cindy McCain has a grudge list Tony Allen-Mills

ON almost every step of his march towards the Republican nomination, John McCain has relied on the support of his glamorous second wife Cindy. Yet she has not always been a political asset. A Republican victory in November would bring to the White House a formidable but flawed first lady.

McCain’s marriage has long attracted attention both for the 18-year age gap between husband and wife and for their adopted Asian daughter, who became the focus of one of the most vicious dirty tricks of the 2000 presidential campaign.

The couple have also overcome daunting health problems that included McCain’s bouts with skin cancer, a stroke suffered by Cindy in 2004, and her admission a decade earlier that she had become so addicted to painkillers that she was stealing them from a medical charity she ran.

Yet somehow the McCains have emerged as a potent and durable political partnership. Cindy McCain was at her husband’s side last week as he celebrated the Florida primary victory that has put him at the front of the Republican field.

A former Arizona rodeo beauty queen and daughter of a millionaire Phoenix businessman, Cindy McCain was 25 when she met her future husband at a cocktail party in Hawaii. John McCain was a 43-year-old naval liaison officer travelling with a congressional delegation, his sights already set on a political career.

He was also still married to his first wife Carol, although the couple had recently separated. Carol later attributed the breakdown of the marriage to “John turning 40 and wanting to be 25 again”. McCain fell like a brick for Cindy, who was the heir to a brewery distribution business worth millions.

Sometimes I write essays just for the heck of it. I've been thinking about doing one on Nixon and Watergate. In one sense it wasn't about Nixon at all. Newspapers were in a desperate situation at the time and the business was shrinking dramatically. The culprit was television. Newspapers argued that TV was shallow and THEY did the real investigative reporting. Watergate was important because the newspapers desperately needed something to prove they were still relevant. What could make them more relevant than taking down a President?

Sorry for the digression, but I agree with your assessment. McCain is a useful idiot for the Dems right now, but as President, he's just another R and they'll do everything they can to destroy him. The Pubbies pee themselves if a congressman gets caught taking three ketchups when he only needs two anyway. What are they going to when it's McCain and they don't even like him?

I wasnt talking about McAmnesty...I could care less about him or her.

I was talking about French President Sarkozy, and the picture of the new first lady of France, his THIRD wife

That is the old tactic of the liberal left. They take their direction liberal groups like moveon and they focus on a gut his family and everyone he is associated with with their smears.

All you have to do is see what they say about Bush and everyone in his family and who he is associated with and this is what they will do again and again and again with.... direction from the top of course.

This is just who they are.

I have no use for John McCain, but this is just crap, and Brit crap at that.

While I agree, this is yet another wakeup call of what a disaster a MacCain nomination will bring. The moment he is the nominee, slowly but surely the Keating 5, his affair with Cindy, his age, his face will all be fair game. This simply can't be done to Romney and is another strong reason to save us from McCain with a Romney nomination.

But Cindy recently admitted that she keeps a “grudge list”.

Great! The Democrats, and the media, aren't going to have a field day talking about do people want a junki, thief with her own grudge list as First "Lady".

Can someone explain to me what the deal is with McCain’s elbows/forearms? He doesn’t seem to be able to raise them in a comfortable manner.

I know he can't lift his arms above his shoulders -- either as a result of his crash-landing or his abuse at the Hanoi Hilton, or maybe both.

I really like one rule of the American Kennel Club, which works as a metaphor for humans of several levels: Working dogs should never be penalized for honorable scars.

Yeah, but when they attacked Nancy Reagan, Reagan went after them hammer and tong. Gotta respect Ronnie for that. The media hates Republican First ladies. One reason, they are ALL a hell of a lot better looking than Hillary Clinton, lol.

I lived in SC at the time, and I never saw or heard anything.

I did receive a phone call for W asking for my vote.

My recollection is that the McCain campaign had a press conference with one woman who had a 13 year old son had been traumatized by an eeeeevil BushPushPoll. Of course, the media couldn't’t follow up with the kid because he was a minor.

My belief is that a cash strapped McCain Campaign invented this incident to play on the Journalists fears of negative campaigning.

He basically threw “red Meat” to the anti conservative journalists on his Straight Talk Express in hopes of getting around the clock positive coverage for him and negative coverage for Bush.

I think part of the backgrounds on Cindy’s drug use was that it happened during the Keating 5 days when McCain was trying to worm his way out of that mess.

At the same time McCain started an investigation to indict one of the worker’s at Cindy’s organization for stealing the drugs. It then turned out that the Feds discovered it really was Cindy and McCain worked tried to cover it up using one of Jordan Vernon’s law partners.

IMHO, Cindy McCain is the victim of John McCain’s ego driven desire to be the POTUS at any expense, including his family.

IIRC, both of his arms were broken, and they used that as part of the torture.

You don't recall correctly. McCain was injured in the crash of his plane.

I guess I misspoke... I didn't mean that his arms were broken in torture... I recalled (and have since gone back and checked) that both of his arms were broken when he was shot down. What I meant was that his broken arms were used by the NV evil creatures as part of his torture.

They managed to portray Nancy Reagan as bitter and controlling, nonetheless. That was probably the view of her that most people accepted at that time.

I studied this kind of technique way back when I was in school. Why do businesses continue to spend billions on advertising, when nobody really believes it? Well, they think they don’t believe it, they think they see through it, yet they still buy the product.

The same with the media. Nobody trusts them, but they still mostly get their views of the world from these liars, and a lot of it rubs off on even the most skeptical readers and listeners.

Once the nomination is secured all the fawning, obsiqeious media coverage we have seen for McCain will end and this is the sort of stuff we will be seeing 24-7 for the next 9 months.

I agree 100%. The press is pro-McCain in his contest with the other Republicans. Once he's nominated the opponent will be Obama or Hillary, and the MSM will feel completely different about him.
