Conservatives can influence that by their feedback to party leaders. They aren’t likely to do worse than what we have now.

You don’t know now as it will be the choice of the 2300 or so delegates that attend the convention in Sept. They may have several ballots with mulitple choices before they get one over the 1191 delegates that is needed.

Who knows..... you may wind up with a nominee like;

Keyes
Buchanan
Frist
Gringrich
DeLay
Dole
or any other you can speculate on......

I’d prefer a one term McCain to an unknown choice at this time and use the four years to try and get another candidate lined up for 2012....
