Senator Barack Obama says the top priority of the next president should be to create a more lasting and equitable prosperity than achieved by either President Bush in the current decade or even Bill Clinton in the 1990s.
In an hourlong interview outlining his economic views, Mr. Obama praised the Clinton administration for reducing the deficit and setting the stage for the 90s boom. But he said Mr. Clinton had failed to halt a long-term increase in income inequality that had left the middle class feeling squeezed.
If elected, Mr. Obama said he would to try to forge a popular mandate for policy changes that could reverse a generation of slow wage growth and outlast any one administration. At the top of his list would be shifting the tax burden more toward the wealthy and making investments in health care, alternative-energy research and education that would cost a significant amount of money but could ultimately lift economic growth. ...
He has called for shoring up Social Security by raising payroll taxes on very high earners, while she has not. He also favors a permanent tax credit of up to $1,000 for families in the bottom 90 percent or so of the income distribution, which makes his package of middle-class tax credits significantly larger than hers...
I want an Alan Blinder, and I want a Jacob Hacker, and I want a Bob Rubin, and I want a Robert Reich, he said, referring to a mix of centrist and more liberal Democratic economic advisers. And I want a good robust argument about where we need to go.

Socialism by any other name ...
We will take from you for the common good.
The top 20% pay 90% of all taxes now. What a maroon.
I am a realist and a facts guy. As an independent I can give a totally unbiased viewpoint on this. Obama wants to take the money homeowners and hard working Americans have and give it away like a socialist to lazy illegals! Easy as that.
Horse Hockey. Did he praise Newt, DeLay, Armey, or even Greenspan?
cuz we know his Hollywood and elitist freinds have nothing to worry about in the oligarchy
Pure oxymoron.
hahahahahaha.... that might not even be possible
Soak the rich, massively increase government spending from Washington. Real visionary that Obama.

The only way the government can close the income gap is by making rich people poorer, while the poor stay the same or get poorer.
Yeah. What are you a racist?
RIP, America. The Obamanation is upon us.
Where is John Galt when we need him?
“Closing the income gap” just another word for communism. Like “pro-choice” is just another word for murder.
“The only way the government can close the income gap is by making rich people poorer, while the poor stay the same or get poorer.”
That is exactly what we get when the government agenda is “fairness”.
With Barack, Hillary or McCain the end result is the same -- open borders, massive influx of 10's of millions of more illegals and the unstoppable transformation of our Republic into a third world Socialist hell. McCain's instinct is to be very liberal. Nothing in his record or character will show that he will do anything remotely conservative once elected.
I work in a Job that I enjoy. I could make more, doing something that I hate. The IMPORTANT part is I ain’t on the dole, or in need of charity.
I don’t want GOVERNMENT to force “equitable prosperity” on Me, or the “entitled poor and LAZY”.
