Huckabee: This is not a two-man GOP race
CBS News ^ | February 1, 2008 | Joy Lin

Posted on 02/01/2008 5:40:31 PM PST by Kurt Evans

Conservative, conservative, conservative. That was the word Mike Huckabee used again and again with reporters to emphasize his credibility as a contender for the Republican nomination...

“There has been somewhat of - almost a national media spin that this race is a two-man race,” said Huckabee... “Last night, the CNN debate was very frustrating for me. There seemed to be an unequal level of time that was allocated, and if people look at the delegate count, one has to have 1,191 delegates in order to be the nominee. So far, no one has even broken a hundred; there’s only 8% of the delegates that have yet been tabulated ..."

Continuing, Huckabee questioned Romney’s quest to claim the conservative mantle: “If people are looking for a true conservative, somebody who hasn’t had a recent change of opinion to become one, I would be the logical choice ..."

Although he would have “loved” to have Arnold Schwarzenegger’s endorsement, Huckabee seemed to undermine it by challenging the California governor’s conservative credentials, and implicitly, McCain’s.

“I would never have expected the governor of California to endorse me and, frankly, I’m probably a lot more conservative on a lot more issues than he would have been comfortable with – whether it’s the Second Amendment, or pro-life issue, or marriage amendment issue or any number of things.”

Huckabee later said that receiving former Republican candidate Duncan Hunter’s endorsement last week probably meant more in the conservative hotbed of San Diego than Schwarzenegger’s endorsement of McCain.

And when Haley Barbour is my candidate in 2012

I'd forgotten about Haley. Thanks for giving me some hope tonight...

You seem to be deluded. Rush and for that matter Sean and Mark, too, are wise enough to see beyond Huckabee’s lies. Are you serious about liking Huckabee? Is is just because he is a pastor? Even pastors are sometimes not the nicest people.

But I’ll pray that you will come to your senses and realize that Romney is the true thing, the only conservative, and that he can beat the Democrat (whoever that will be).

The video showing Romney 's forthright, sincere conviction to defend the right to abort a child that JimRob has repeatedly linked is the death nail that forever disqualifies Romney as a conservative.

See, I won't go that far... I can accept that people change. But a Road to Damascus change of an order of magnitude, such as Romney's, is naturally going to seem unbelievable.

Let him try out his new conservative clothes as the governor in an uber-conservative state- Might I suggest Utah- for term or two to make certain those clothes don't wind up splitting at the seams... Then, if successful, we can talk.

Thanks, I do need the prayers. I think I'm becoming excessively obsessed with politics even though I know that God is in control and works all things together for the good.

Have you seen this video of Romney in debate in 2002, and if so, what do you think about it?

How do you pick the least of the three evils?

You pick the one with the best potential to defeat the Clintons.

I think Mike Huckabee is that guy. He is the best speaker, best debater, most likable, the hardest campaigner, the youngest, most energetic, most humorous, most talented, who would get the support of the most loyal republican demographic, the pro-life folk, but also the hispanic vote (Key! Key! Key!); because he is not perceived as a radical anti-immigrant fiend, and because he is the most empathetic to the economic plight of people, because he has executive experience, and he has bold initiatives, like abolishing the IRS and building a wall to secure our country, etc. etc. He is the guy.

he can beat the Democrat (whoever that will be).

Not without the Evangelicals, he won't, and therein lies the problem. The same reasons that stop Romney fans from backing Huck prevent Huck fans from backing Romney. This is an ideological split- A juxtaposition with no means of merging.

It is a perfect demonstration of what happens when "electability" trumps principle, for those who would benefit from the education.

Romney is the only one who has successfully managed a business. Romney is the only one who is consistantly attacked by the MSM.

First of all, managing a business is not an especially novel thing. Tens of millions of Americans do it every day.

Second, Huckabee is comletely ignored. It is allegedly a two way race according to the MSM.

But I think the MSM is setting them up. McCain's success depends on the situation in Iraq. Romney's the economy. Both candidates are inextricably linked to these narratives that are completely controlled by the MSM.

Huckabee is not. That is why he is ignored or defined as some kind of religious zealot when in reality he is the most formidable candidate to confront the Clinton virus.

I won’t be surprised if people start taking a second look at Huckabee. I think more and more people are beginning to realize that the so-called conservative leaders are tryin to sell us snake oil in the form of Romney and McCain.

I think you are absoutely right.

Let me say this; GET THEE BEHIND ME HUCKABEE. Does a pro-life person take a $35,000 honorium from the world’s largest destroyer of embryos? Does a wise politician help release 13 murders, including Wayne Dumond, who then gets out and rapes and murders again? What kind of man fathers a son who kills a dog and slits the dog’s throat? Huckabee better get home and train up his children in a better manner.

I believe that abortion is the wrong choice except in cases of incest, rape, and to save the life of the mother.

That is not a pro-life position, sorry to say.

But while the nation remains so divided over abortion, I believe that the states, through the democratic process, should determine their own abortion laws and not have them dictated by judicial mandate.”

No, that is not a pro-life position either. That is a legalistic subterfuge, a passing of the buck, an immoral acquiescence.

True conservatives recognize that the right to life is protected by the constitution. It's a federal issue, plan and simple. Romney's stance is a cop-out.

Exactly. He will never sustain the social coservative vote. He is a November loser. Romney supporters ( despite how much money you have been paid ) should vote for Huckabee.

Huckabee is by far the strongest pro-gun and pro-life candidate remaining

And the only candidate supporting the Fairtax.... Primarily for that, but I strongly agree with your two reasons, He has my vote Tuesday, I certainly cant vote for McCain and just don't trust Romney, But I will be a team player and vote for whoever get the nomination against ANY Dem in November...

Don't look now, but Rush gets paid to express opinions. The truth is he was afraid to endorse a candidate because he's a Rudy lover and he knew how that would go over. I'm disgusted with Rush.

You really think that?? I thought Hannity was a Rudy Lover, but I have had Rush somewhere between Thompson and Romney for along time now.
