Ping!
$7.5 Billion is a lot in China.
There were 78 deaths just in Massachusetts in The Blizzard of ‘78.
That’s life.

We get lots of snow all the time and never that kind of monetary damage. You shovel or plow it aside and go on. The worst is collapsed roofs, and I can't imagine enough to that to cause that kind of damage.
Something doesn't sound right.
They get a foot of snow there, it's gonna play havoc when that snow melts and washes not only the water but the erosion of the mountains into the reservoir.
Truely a sad situation. Probably more deaths will go unreported to save face.
44,600 livestock had died.
In Kashgar, the worst hit Xinjiang area, more than 2,100 greenhouses collapsed under the weight of snow and ice.
If their electric grid is down and they've only got a 3-4 day supply of coal left, people could be freezing to death in their homes/apartments and nobody will know til after this all blows over.
It could get a LOT worse.
8.4 million hectares of crops have been damaged, while 874,000 pigs, 85,000 cows, and 14.35 million chickens have died. Xu Xihe, a spokesman for the commerce ministry, said on television yesterday that "vegetable prices have risen to a record".
And this is from the govt which may be understating the problem due to losing face.
Um.... aren’t greenhouses supposed to be warm? Like warm enough to melt snow falling on them?
I’ve got lots of experience with snowfall on relatively warm surfaces and it usually melts fast enough to run off before it can accumulate enough to collapse anything. I suppose the weight of the ice could do it though, if they didn’t know enough to knock it off.
Otherwise, I guess that’s Chinese quality for you.
It could be they’re downplaying it. Wonderful thing about the internet, is that it forces the government to admit stuff like this because they know it will get out anyway. If they can announce it first, that’s the *official* version.
I feel for the people. They’re paying the price for their corrupt government.
You know, I see cows out in the winter all the time, with snow on their backs and all. I thought cows could handle the cold.
Starvation will be a problem. That’s a country that can’t afford to lose that much food.
Healthy, well fed cows do surprisingly well in cold weather. As long as they are dry and the wind isn’t too extreme. Rain in 33 to 36 degree weather is harder on them than heavy snow at 0 degrees.
If they have feed, they can stand some pretty extreme cold. The old cow farmers around here know how much fodder to put away to get their cows through the winter. I suppose that if the cows can’t forrage, they may have used all of their fodder and the cows just don’t have enough fuel to survive the cold.
Tiger does that happen snow this much in China this part of China
Al Gwhore needs to fly to China on his private jet and tell them about globull warming. All his hot air ought to melt some of that snow.
